What Ever Happened To Rocko and Birdsey?

I think Birdsey left the show (let go?) while Rocko continued on AAF. He was let go after than, ended up in Ohio doing radio, and then sunk further to being a used car salesman. Birdsey was on a RI station for a bit?

Haven't heard of either in radio in years.

Birdsey went to FNX, and did the "Storm and Birdsey" show for a while as well. I saw on a Facebook conversation about Rocko being in some ill health in recent years, but I don't know how true that is or the specifics. Hope he's doing well, wherever he may be. I used to enjoy listening to him on WAAF.

here's the definitive "what happened to rocko and birdsey"

Rocko and birdsey disbanded from waaf...contract disputes i've heard (birdsey's end)

birdsey's timeline after the departure

Birdsey works at 101.7 fnx with storm to form "storm and birdsey" in the afternoons
storm leaves to go to the now defunct 96wave
birdsey pairs with "b-dub" for an afternoon show
the birdsey and bdub show get moved to afternoons at 103.7 providence's fnx when they had two separate stations
birdsey and bdub are let go when the station folds...birdsey auditioned for several gigs (even one at BCN before toucher and rich)
i have "heard" he now is out of the business and did something like screen printing t-shirts

Rocko's timeline...this one gets rough, so grab a coke

rocko after being paired with birdsey is then paired witht he former producer of the rich hatch morning show Matty Blake, they do afternoons
Matt leaves and mike brangiforte is paired with rocko for a few months
rocko was let go from waaf
rocko then gets a gig hosting mornings at the buzzard in cleveland? supposedly he was a "bad boy" out there and was let go after 3 months
rocko then lands nights at KUFO in protland oregon...don't know the situation but he was let go from there as well
rocko returned to mass, worked as a car dealer and i heard as a bartender as well
somewhere in here rocko had some major health issues, diabetes, lost vision (supposedly) etc.
I've heard he applied for a few gigs but didn't land anything after KUFO

so neither work in radio anymore

I registered here to make this clear that there was no contract dispute on Birdsey's end. Back in 2001 Me and 2 of my friends participated in a contest to celebrate the 2nd season of Survivor. The contest was called 'The Quest for fire', the rules were simple light a candle without a lighter or matches or any other manufactured item. I should note that Rocko was away on vacation at this time. During our attempt by using a bow and drill assembly, Birdsey had called one of my friends a Hitler loving nazi, considering my friend was a person of the Jewish faith he didn't take it lightly. We left there without confrontation, without successfully starting a fire, nor did anyone else. The next day my friend called WEEI's Director and left a 45 minute voice mail at how disgusted he was at what he was called. In which he had received a letter from the Director stating that he was sorry for what had happened and actions would be taken to resolve this. When Rocko returned 2 days later we were told on the radio that Birdsey was on vacation, in which he never returned from. So from what I experienced on he show and from what happened in the weeks after we have come to the conclusion that Bridsey was fired for what had happened on the show.

I will follow this if you have any questions or remarks.

Why would you leave there without confrontation, just to call back the next day? If you guys played your cards right, you could have been really nasty sallys and pointed the candle (which you may or may not have gotten lit) at him, said "youre fired" and taken his livelihood away in one fell swoop, with a twist of dark comedy.

I heard someone saw someone's contract and that was the end of the show right there.

Rocko did go to WMMS in Cleveland where this was an allegation of contest-fixing. He was released. He then went to KUFO...more allegations. Released. Came back to Boston. Was doing some voice work and working at one of the car dealers in Shrewsbury(?)

Also heard he was working at a bar in Worcester. More allegations.

I heard the health issues. He had certainly not lived healthy his whole life, but I'd heard he got his act together. At this point...not in radio by all accounts.

I read the sarcasm, but will explain a little more. The 1 main reason we didnt leave with out confrontation was 1. As soon as he had said it I told him that he was Jewish, you could see the horror in his eyes when he heard that. 2. We where there representing the Boy Scouts of America, in uniform. The last thing we wanted to see was anything on the front page of any newspaper was 'Boy Scout leader attacks talk show host'.

Neanderpaul... The contract may have come out at that time but was probably somewhere on the lines of him in breach of contract for using derogatory remarks.

If this is true, did you get satisfaction from getting him fired? Without a doubt, what he said was stupid and admittedly you knew that based on the "look of horror on his face". That being said, WAAF is far from being NPR. Its a rock station, that not long before you were there was the home of Opie and Anthony. Was your buddy's life reduced to sitting in the fetal position crying and wondering "why, oh why did he have to say that to me? I can't live knowing that he is feeding his family."

I hope you meant that in a sarcastic way like before. It was only his intention to let the station know what he had said, as it happened off the air, during commercial break. I myself personally do not think it was just the derogatory remark which got him released/fired. If he did get released/fired it would have to have been several things, but seeing as how after WAAF he couldn't seem to keep a job, that should show that he has a history and no matter if he started with a clean slate each time he had found ways to screw up each time.

How can I get one of those voice mail systems where you can leave 45 minute messages?

Systems where the voice mails are stored on computers like voip systems. Have more or less unlimited messege length unless they are setup with a limit
