What ever happened to...

Just curious if anyone knows what ever happened to the award winning KERA Radio staff from the mid-1980's? Mike Nitka, Mark Lambert, and the list goes on. I had the pleasure of working with many of them on several projects back then. Ah, the good old days...

Lambert went on to KEWS, then to a PD or ND position with KNTU at the University of North Texas. At last check, he's still there. Nitka? No. Ditka? maybe.

I worked with Mike Nitka at KERA back in the mid 80's. Mike went to WASH DC.Susan Harmon GM of the FM Married Dr. Richie Meyer gm of KERATV. They both taught at UNT as part of the KDTN-KERA deal. After that they went to teach (believe it or not ) in China.
Susan Lamb the Music Director I beleive went to the Tv side of things.Duane Sedge went to WBAP many years ago as an engineer is still there.Bruce Tater,Duane Martin and Ira Bernstein "hosts of "Jazz with BMT" went to the Jazz station in Denton for a short while, and Bruce Tater is on at KETR in Commerce.

Nitka was one of the nicest radio managers I've ever had the pleasure of working with. And I sat at the console with Mark Lambert on more than one occasion on some fairly complicated remote broadcasts during those years. I think a couple of awards were even won for them...something Steve Allen was involved with. Is this sounding familiar at all? Would love to visit with Mark sometime...

Nitka was very nice, and low key. Susan was a "smilin cobra". The Steve Allen thing was "Meeting of the Minds"where he got his wife Jayne Meadows, and other actors to dress as historical figures and have a discussion on various topics as their characters. It was on PBS.

Ah yes, I remember the "cobra" all to well! The production I was talking about was the Van Cliburn radio broadcast that KERA Radio originated for American Public Radio. Steve Allen was the host talent. We're you there during that period?
