What Ever Happened To...

:)Providence had some of the best Djs in the 1960s and 1970s, many better than their counterparts in Boston (especially in the 1970s). Lots of great memories in Providence radio, indeed! Just wondering what ever happened to...

Mike Waite, JB105
Todd Chase, JB105
Rob Stewart, JB105
Howard Hoffman, 92 PRO FM
Mike Ivers, WJAR
Jack O'Brien, WPRO
Don Geronimo, WPRO
The Boogie Man, WPRO
Andy "Big Ange" Jackson, WPRO

And although he came later what about Rocky Allen who was on PRO-FM? He was let go from WPLJ earlier this year but I haven't seen anything about whether or not he landed anywhere. For a site where so many people were ready to nominate anyone with a tongue for the RI Radio Hall Of Fame I'm surprised at the lack of responses. I swear most people here don't even like radio or know much about the history of the market.

Howard Hoffman is awesome. He was a great sounding jock... so full of energy and fun to listen to. I actually had an idiot PD once tell me that I sounded too much like Howard Hoffman... and he wasn't trying to be complimentary.

I didn't realize that sounding like a legendary major market DJ was a bad thing.

As far as I know, Rocky is still on the beach. As far as RI Radio Hall of Fame, Rocky was only here about 2 years, while he did capture the attention of the market while he was here, he didn't start his career here or spend a majority of it here either. More deserving candidates for consideration next year would be Giovanni (over 30 years at the same station), Jimmy Gray, Gary Degraide, Gary Berkowtiz, Mike Gorman, David Jones, Chuck Wilson, Steve Kass, Tom Cuddy and Ron St. Pierre to name a few that just rattled off the top of my head from the more recent crop of personalities over the last 15-20 years. Going back farther, you have Jim Mendes & Norm Jagolinzer, along with station owners (prior to the crop of media corporations owning now), the Fish' and Engles' come to mind would be choices more fitting of the Hall.

Ya mean Steve White isn't in the RI Broadcasting Hall of fame?

They just had their innaugural class in May....Steve will get in there at some point; but not the first class

The user here who uses the id "mwaite" (not 100% sure its Mike Waite from JB-105) wrote an excellent post about
the duel between PRO-FM/JB-105 in the 70's early 80's. Very detailed stuff and a good read.
