What Ever Happened To...

Just wondering what happened to some of my favorite Boston radio personalities during the 60s, 70s and 80s:

Harry Chase (WVBF)
Charlie Fernandez (WVBF)
Tom Allen (WMEX)
Dave Supple (WHDH)
Larry Justice (WBZ)
Dennis Burke (WCCM)
Jim Roberts (WROR)
Bill Smith (WZLX)
Charlie Van Dyke, WRKO
Jim Sands (WHDH, Oldies 103.3)

Bill Smith is now at WRKO as production chief ... and one great guy!

Harry Chase doing voiceovers (CNN among his clients)

Charlie is also doing voiceovers.

And at one time Larry Justice was in ownership - I think back in the 80's he owned WCIB in Falmouth... though don't know what he's up to these days.

May I add Jay Dunn of WBZ to the list?

Also Jefferson Kay and Bruce Bradley, both of WBZ at around the same time.

Jim Roberts (WROR)

Jimmmmmmmmmy Roberts works at a station down around the Fort Myers area or maybe it's the Tampa area and you can hear the station in Fort Myers. I was on vacation back in June in Marco Island, FL and happened to hear him on-air while scanning the dial but I forget the station call letters. I may have them saved somewhere, I'll check in a bit. Also heard him last year when I was vacationing in Fort Myers. Sounded really great.

Update: Jim Roberts does the 10-3 shift on WOLZ (95.3 OLZ) in Fort Myers, FL. "More Music, Real Variety". www.wolz.com

Jimmy Roberts, who once wore a chicken suit while holding a microphone (we have the pictures), is the PD as well as the midday guy at 95.3 WOLZ.

and Dave Supple was actually up the coast a ways in Maine for a while. out of radio and was enjoying the good life, even driving a school bus to keep himself from going crazy.

Dennis Burke of WCCM who also did weekend overnights at BZ in the late 70's passed away several years ago.

Now this is at least 10-15 years ago, however Jim Sands did a stint in the Middle East during the first Persian Gulf war.

I don't see how that could have been. I think he was on 103.3 during that time. Also, he was also already at least well into his fifties by then, maybe into his sixties.

In a brief conversation I had with The Famous One a dozen years ago, he did a brief stint overseas - in Hong Kong, iirc. That was before his return to WODS.

Sean Casey, about whom there was a story in one of the Mass. papers recently, did do a stint for the CIA overseas on the radio during Desert Shield/Storm.

Anyone have airchecks of Smith? Even when he was in Columbus, OH?

Jimmy Roberts was caught up in the recent Clear Channel cuts and is no longer on the air at WOLZ.
