What Exactly is Star doing?

I'm trying to figure out what Star 101.3 is trying to accomplish:

Prince- Purple Rain
Usher- Yeah
Rascal Flatts- What Hurts the Most
UB40- Here I Am
Leona Lewis- Bleedin Love
Joan Osbourne- What if God Was One

Any takers?

AAOACHR?
Alternative-Album-Oriented-Adult-Contemporary-Hit-Radio?

They are probaly trying to sound like Movin 99.7 or Kiss FM

hmmm...maybe they are playing songs that test well for their target demo. a station as important as star is not flying blind. they have multiple AMT's, Callout, and Focus Groups. so unless you guys are adult females living a VERY busy life...trying to juggle a carreer, family, and friends i wouldn't expect you to "get it" ...we would all do better if we stop trying to put radio stations in nice shiny boxes that we're designed 25+ years ago.

This is a fairly typical sample of a gold based Hot AC or "mix" station. Broad based lots of variety, no ethnic or non-ethnic focus

Perhaps it's the new PD, Brit Andrew Jeffries, is bringing some of his international perspective on programming to the USA. Don't European stations play broader playlists?
Could make things interesting.

I guess looking at the set list, it’s not the titles themselves that puzzled me it was the segues. Do MD's and PD's still massage their music logs...or is that too archaic as well?

Star is tied at #1 with women 25-44 - with KSOL & KBLX - in the Spring Arbitron Book with came out today. Alice is #9. Movin' is #13th.

Fewer people to massage the logs at Clear Channel.

Actually what they are doing is closer to throwing darts at the wall and seeing if any stick. As for being tied with KBLX and KSOL, they should own that demo. Let's remember gang that narrow focus = broad results! 25 - 44 Females is where they must dominate! Likewise, there probably isn't messaging goin on since the PD probably has his hands full and the others at the station have never really had much experience scheduling the music.

wow. obviously you are nowhere near the building. the PD schedules EVERY song on the station without exception. His messaging is clear. listen for 15minutes and you'll hear it- look at the website, the direct marketing, or their vehicles and you'll see it. Throwing darts is one thing they are not doing.

They are tied at NUMBER ONE in the key demo; with KBLX who had an unusually big Spring Book and KSOL which, like it or not, is in a different world when it comes to ratings equalling revenue. I'd call this dart throw a bullseye.
