what FM sation do you think is going to flip next?

Its not that I dont know anything about non spanish stations. But I only kow about the stations by name or by signal. Not by letters.

KBME. I know. not FM. but still.... a return to music? we'll see!

I think ESPN radio is going to flip. Well maybe im wrong but I dont know. Who even has that radio station on? To hear sport I would listen to 740 am. And they also have that station on hd, right??

Well, let's take all of the Cox cluster out because we have been waiting for a flip for years.

Clearchannel will probably keep KBME until a couple of months after KGOW launches. One of the sports clusters is bound to give in.
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/barron/5061545.html According to the good old trusty chronicle, they are launching monday.

CBS seems to be steady (Unless the disastrous Movin' might be Moving in????)

Radio One, nothing new.

I think it might be a while until a major flip.

104.1 or 106.9 will be the next to flip

I agree that one of the sports channels will flip. There is barely enough monetary interest in one, much less three. I believe it will be KFNC first, but KBME will roll with it longer than most people think. With KILT AM down and out in AM, CC will try to ride it out. It would be a shock, but if KBME hangs on through the year and KILT drops as I suspect it will after all the turmoil past and future, KILT could flip sometime next year.

Another minor change: I suspect KXYZ (BizRadio) will flip back to all foreign language by the first of 08. There's no way Dan Frishberg and his gang has the money to purchase the station from Multicultural. Multicultural won't sell it cheap and Frishberg's lease is up at the end of the year. I predict the end of BizRadio at 1320 and their Dallas station at year's end.

Yeah Cox does not intend to flip any of its stations any time soon. It needs to but they are dead set on running their formats into the ground before that happens.

Would love to have some of what you guys are smokin'. There is no way in Hell that Cumulus is going to do ANYTHING with 104.1. It makes money, gets ratings and keeps their Houston cluster afloat. The Cox cluster in Houston is not and has never been on CEO Bob Neil's radar. He would rather ignore his failures here than admit that he was wrong. Even though Randy Kabrich's 80's format went bust on the Point and Country Legends no longer holds a decent position, Bob is content as long as the cluster doesn't lose money. But believe me, Houston is an embarassment to the Cox portfolio, especially when San Antonio--right up the road--has so many winners. Bob Neil would never admit that his precious strategic team approach was wrong, anywhere, anytime.

KBME? Maybe. That was the brainchild of run-out-of-town-on-a-rail mastermind Ken Charles. Don't know if Eddie Martiny has any passion for it. KFNC? Not a chance. They will stay the course on sports. 610 Sports still makes money and Granato's departure has been the unevent of the year. Plus they've got solid play by play sports, so they're not going anywhere. Look for a fire sale on KILE. It's doomed. Radio One...happy as a clam.

The Point may have pathetically under-achieved under the diary system, but it's actually a pretty respectable player P25-54 in the PPM world... it doesn't have KODA or KKRW numbers, but it's solidly in the top 10.

Well I never listen to ESPN radio, the only radio I listen to for sports in News radio 740 am.
And now that 1560 is also sports I going to listen to that one also. So where does that leave ESPN RADIO????

And when I say ESPN radio I mean the one on FM, not 790 am

KHPT is 15th 12+ in PPM share, and in 25-54 it is 9th, one share behind KODA who is 4th.

Speculation is fun. Here's mine -

KFNC - not long for this world, in its present incarnation as "EPSN Sports Radio". I thought the whole idea was that ESPN wanted less local programming and more of their network programs. KFNC has been adding local programs, albeit mostly unlistenable ones, much to the consternation of the ESPN radio folks. Prediction - by January, Cumulus new Houston GM will have changed the format to a "Movin'" type format, and a move of the calls back to the Golden Triangle, broadcasting in stereo.

KBME - with KFNC out of the way, KBME buys some time but KGOW will draw listeners from both KBME and KILT. After January, KBME will move to an all news format, borrowing news personnel from KTRH and having a schedule that contains both local and syndicated news programs. Newsradio 790 takes the place of the rebranded Supertalk 740.

KHPT - no changes predicted. Station is performing as needed by Cox.

KIOL - ratings drop causes reevaluation of the format by the new Cumulus GM. A move toward active rock coincides with the "Movin'" format change on KFNC.

I've been to League City several times and all of the Senior Road Stations work fine. You should have no problem picking up the HD Sub Channel of KLOL.

Speculation is indeed fun, Stan. A few wishful ideas on my part:

First I'd like to say I like the KGOW stunt of "Good times and Great Oldies". Sounds familiar...
The signal still sucks. Went to Bellaire yesterday, signal is scratchy and doesn't sound like it's at 50kw. If so, they are in real trouble. We'll see tomorrow morning when The Game hits the air. If this is what they will reap from the new antenna, it's game over before it even gets started. I would've thought they'd have fired up the new rig for the stunt..but I guess not. Also, with KLVL simulcasting KGOW won't this be the first time that KLVL has run English programming?

Ok on to the topic.

KTSU. With all of the trouble that TSU has faced in the last year, maybe trying to get a little extra cash in to the University by selling the longtime voice of the Tigers doesn't seem so far fetched these days.

KFNC. I agree with Stan about them dropping ESPN. I thought the whole reason ESPN dropped 790 and moved to 97.5 was so that Mike and Mike in the mornings would be run in its entirety? I guess not. I couldn't imagine Movin' being brought to Houston by Cumulus, but you never know. My guess is they try Americana next on KFNC..and yes, in stereo. Although Cumulus COULD run a 24/7 EAS test on 97.5 and nobody west of Baytown would notice.

KIOL. It can't go much longer can it? Active Rock, I doubt. KIOC pretty much has that niche locked up in B/PA, and Houston "can't support it". I see a Classic Hits station coming here in the not so distant future. I mean why not, KIOL already sounds a lot like K-Hits and Cool 92.5 as it is.

KTHT. Tubby's departure automatically takes away from the creditability of the station. When you can the only jock your station has, you are probably in trouble. I see 93Q picking up some of the old classics and 97.1 goes....90's and today.

KXYZ. I'm going with adguy on this one. Something tells me that this boat is about to sink. Talk is already happening that KMNY in Dallas is a goner, and Dan Frishburg is doing his damndest to get former KTON/Belton moved into Fort Worth as a rimshot to continue reaching the D/FW market. I'm not going so far as to say that Biz Radio is leaving Houston, only that it'll be at a different dial setting. My guess is that KIKK gets back to business. Which leads me to...

KBME. If Great Radio Houston could get a hold of KBME and bring Standards/Swing back to full time, I'd be one happy listener. I'm positive others here would agree with that. 1 of the 4 sports stations are going to fail by default alone. I'm guessing 2, with KFNC as stated above.
