When WZKR, Decatur, MS went on the air in May of 2001 it was "Variety..." Rainey-Michaels operation. It was known as "Best Songs on the Radio, One Oh Three Three ZKR." License was Decatur, MS the tower was located next to 97.9's ( WMYQ, Newton, MS) tower in Chunky, MS. Random, WMYQ dubbed "98 My Country" (97.9) in 1996, later "Oldies Ninety Seven Nine." (just before it sold to Broadcasters and Publishers or Apex B'casting whatever they were known as at that time.) Ken Rainey, Ken Michaels, Mike Glass, Terry C. Burton, Keith Ballard and a host of other "old hats" fired up WMYQ in the mid 90's...followed by WMYQ AM 1100 (AM eventually sold and relocated to LA)....work on WZKR stated at the same time as WMYQ. While WMYQ hit the air in the mid 90's it would be '01 before WZKR would launch. ZKR has sold twice. Formats on ZKR from it's orig as Variety to- the first buyers, well... some kind of rock and indi (i guess you'd call it.) Different for sure. Next Christian as "The Light." Current Ownership flipped it from "The Light" to "B-103."
