What format should return?

My vote is for the Young Country format that was at CBS owned KYNG (now KLLI). It had attitude, music and was a unique sound for Dallas/Fort Worth. Can something like that ever come back?

It did... it's called LITE FM ;D

Have you heard new country music lately? It's Caspar Milquetoast rock. Heck, even Martina McBride gets down with the electric jam session, Reba is holding up a drunk Kelly...er...uh...sharing a nice duet with Kelly Clarkson and the rest of them thar' youngsters look like frat boys from Ole Miss on a weekend pass and looking for Star Search.

Pity. KYNG was nice, but not here. I'm old school... give me The Zoo or Q102 anyday. Shoot, for that matter, gimme 100.3 Jamz when R&B wasn't all Dirty Southed out.

Man VDV,(pouring out a little liquor), everytime I hear about that station, I'm reminded of how much I miss it. R.I.P. :'(

Bring back KDL. Dance music with a good beat and no rap. Too niche of a format I guess. I don't dare mention SJ again for fear of being dogpiled again. :-X 24 hour FM news would be nice. Does anyone remember the Zone? I guess that was considered AAA but any station that plays Stevie Ray Vaughan followed by Depeche Mode is okay by me... and no, I don't mean like JACK FM. The Zone never played Abba. ;D

I just know that one of those Jeffs' on these boards is going to say "Smooth Jazz" so I thought I'd beat 'em to the punch! ;D

Hello All,
Smooth Jazz format needs to go back on 107.5 HD-1 and Movin to 107.5 HD-2, LIVE 105.3 go to 105.3 HD-2 add Active Rock-Rock-Metal to 105.3 HD-1, Casa move to 106.7 HD-2 and KDL Dance to 106.7 HD-1, Move Jack FM to 100.3HD-2 add 100.3 old KJAZ Jams to HD-1. I can go on and on...if we want too.

Dan-The-Man!!
The North Texas Radio MAN!!!

Awww, what's wrong with a little Abba? ;)

Young Country - absolutely. It was about the personality and the interaction with the audience as much as it was about the "young" country music. Dan Pearman made that station work.

Smooth Jazz - yes. I still don't understand why this went away. It had a diverse audience and good numbers.

All News - yes. Do it right. Make it the live news source of the DFW area. Don't sneak in talk shows or sports programs here and there. Give folks a place where they know they can get live local news, weather, traffic and sports on a 24/7 basis. KEWS died only because CBS had to sell an FM frequency and Salem made them an offer for 94.9 that they couldn't refuse. The format will work if done right.

I'll second that vote. No reason why this area couldn't have a
WBBM. Heck, half the airwaves is CBS anyway.... ;D

Being back the KLIF of yesteryear...or WFAA Musicradio...

Bring in a WBBM..Bring back KZEW1980...Q102 1986...KLIF1966...KRLD 1978...KAFM 1980...hell bring back radio!!!

Rock...Rock...Rock..."Everything that Rocks"...hell, pipe in "Live 105" SF. Something other than fm talk and Spansh or R&B. The Bone is better than it has been but still one dimensional. The Edge is what it is designed to be. A good rock station without limitations would be nice. I realize its a very different market but KISS does well.

I think what a lot of stations right now are trying to do is something completely new and exciting...which unfortunately has ended up old and dull.

Why not do something tried and true? Some of the most successful stations in this market have been stations that do ONE thing and do it WELL. A lot of what I see as the problem is that you have some stations that haven't done anything well for a while and are trying too many things in an attempt to make something, anything stick. What I'd like to hear is a consistent format and sound so that when I tune in, I know what I'm getting. Whether it be a music station with high profile personality and promotion, or strategically formatted music intensive station or full time news, I think the key is identifying WHAT you are and DO THAT...so the listener knows that too.
We have a bunch of stations right now that are a little of this and a little of that and little real identity.
Do one thing, do it well.

Right on! I miss this.
But the format I miss the most is Smooth Jazz. Only because it is so easy to get through the lines and win prizes. I had almost every family member win that "Trip A Day" contest.

Id vote for a return of dance or a "decent" rock format, like Q102. Heck, a KEGL from the mid-late 90s before nationwide soiled that place would be even acceptable

With this quote, I'm shocked I haven't seen more of "jazz blows because I said so" die-hards spark conversation about the lines always being open. Nevertheless, JAZZ is always a nice conversation piece :D

I think one of our more vocal anti-jazz fanatics got himself banned from the board.
