What Formats Missing From Your Market?

Greenville: Anything that's worth a damn.

Other than Oldies, it seems like most formats are in the GSP market. Now, whether a particular station covers the format well, that's a different story (MY 102.5 is dismal as a Hot AC, for example).

Technically, I'd say oldies is covered with Earth, even though it doesn't cover the entire market well (you could say the same for variety hits or alternative, with that logic).

Greenville has all of the major/important formats, but the execution leaves some to be desired with many of the stations.

Would like to see a Rhythmic AC / Gen X format here in the Upstate.
It is on WFBC-HD2 commercial free but its also mixed in with some of today's CHR.

Before I get inta anything funny, let me point-out the posters on this Topic, that have voted for a Jazz station...
Sheeeeeeeeesh,...at the thought of pointless-endless saxophone solos. Break-out the Diet Peach Wine Coolers!
The Brown Street Jazz Club went belly-up....Hmmmmmmmmm?????????
Now, if correctly Launched, and Maintained...a "Deep Spread" format...covering AOR New Wave, Punk, Alt, and Synthi-Pop music from 1976-1996. The base playlist begins at 3000 songs. No more than nine commercial minutes per hour, and a Live Airshift, slated per the Arb dayparts. Sponsored Local Newscasts, No traffic, and NASCAR is not mentioned outside of a Sportscast. It's all about the MUSIC,...and The Local Area!!

scooter i thought i could run faster and jump higher with pf flyers when i was a kid. i couldn't, but i wanted pf flyers. what you propose will never happen it is easier to boost your ego with that 15 minutes from the 80's than realize where radio operators are today

Freqy,...Where Radio Operators are today...Receiving pittlly little paychecks, and crowing over a 5-share. You might try the shift key for a capitol "i". Most keyboards have two. It looks like this..."I".
...and IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII had several pairs of P.F. Flyers, and the Jonny Quest decoder ring, that came with each purchase.

Considering the fact that I don't live in a market and the closest market to me is an add on to Columbia this is one topic I can't really help with.

It sorta rolls...without statement: None of us want to see EARTH-FM fail. Fans or not of Love & Hudson, Lee Alexander, K.C. Carson, and Gary Jackson,...The Idea, The Risk, The Effort, and The...
"Testicular Fortitude" is appreciated. No, Arb ain't gonna be there for them, and thus, the Agencies ain't either. I see it as a sensible buy, but Agencies have to have their alleged proof, before spending a penny. The EARTH product may not please every listener, but it is very good. To me, I'm troubled by their lack of coverage. Hopefully, they can acquire the other half; 103.9 They would be a player, then.
If they do fail, it will clearly be their (lack of)coverage, and not their product.

yes Jazz, would be great , remember the old 93.3

Ahh, yes, 93.3 The Breeze (WBBO). I'm fairly certain that format (though via satellite) originated from their Forest City studios, maybe for the entire run which was just a few years.

Charleston: a good top 40. 95SX is boring and bad for its market any more. 101.7 is sort of a classic hits station, but it still has the Jack mentality where they can play almost anything from the 70s on.

There's no station playing anything newer than 70s music. Apex could also do something with 1390. Anything is better than a CD tourism loop that gets about 5 listeners. Heck, even simulcasting the Box or putting true oldies on would be better than that.

Doubt anyone will compete with 95sx again, was already tried with B 92 and they failed. And now you got Mix 95.9 but their Hot AC.

I wonder what will happen with 96.9 or 92.5 keeps going back and forth with those two. Kickin' now seems to be doing better. If 96.9 were to flip what would they do? Go back to Sunny 96.9 but as classic hits.

With the three country stations in the Charleston market if someone had said ahead of this happening hay were going to have three country stations in Charleston I am sure most people on here would have said they were crazy. Granted each one is owned by a different corporation and country music is a very strong music format. 103.5 WEZL is going to be the dominant country station, you may knock them down but can you keep them there for very long, not likely. So the real question there is would either 96.9 or 92.5 make better money flipping formats or are they doing ok battling mostly for second and third place in the Charleston country music market. From the outside looking in it might look like a good idea to flip a format on one of the lower two but none of us own any of the three stations and we really don't know how well the Charleston country market is supporting each station money wise, it maybe a large enough share with the current strength in country music that each station doesn't want to flip formats and take a chance at possibly making less money in their new format or take too much time to build that new format up money wise. Who really knows.
