What happened to backtothe80s ?

The syndicated show by Ray Gauthier.

I was about to see if we could get it for an upcoming station about to start here soon, but the website
and all information relating to it has gone.

It finally went back. I'm not 100% sure, but the station I used to hear it on stopped quite a while back. Probably didn't have enough affiliates to make it profitable. You could just as easily put together some 80's music and have someone voicetrack it.

Hello Studio 1, chriscollins is quite accurate regarding Back To The 80s. Unfortunately there wasn't enough financial support at the time to keep the show going with the amount of time that was involved. That was almost 3 years ago and things may be different now I don't know. I still have everything needed to bring the show back within a week if the support was there, could even make it a weekly show. Perhaps you can tell me what you had in mind and we can go from there.

Kind Regards....
Ray Gauthier

Hi Ray!

Well, I never thought I would see you on this forum, but it's a pleasure to greet you.
Your show was being played here in New Zealand on a station I was engineering for.
I am now involved with some new projects (can't say too much in open forum) but I thought a show such
as Back to the 80s would have been a good choice for one of these.
I went Googling when I couldn't get to the old site, and found very little except for some preserved audio on
archive.org
I don't know how long the show had been running for, but I suspect a while.
Do you still have copies of every show dating back to the start?

Regards.

Nice to meet you too.

Yes we have archives of everything. I posted a comment on this thread about the show, unfortunately the first comment wasn't very encouraging :)

Yes, well sometimes you just can't help some people! Talk_dude obviously doesn't know the show, and couldn't be bothered looking into it - if he'd done a simple search he would have found the archived program that I did.

I hear your comments about the show perhaps not airing at the right time - and that now may be a better time to launch it.
I also hear your thoughts about needing a decent customer base in order to fund it.

I don't know what sort of figure is needed to provide such a show, but I am sure that there must be at least enough stations worldwide that would take it.

As for length, I'd need to consider that.

@Studio1

I probably could have been a bit more careful on my wording with him, unfortunately forums and emails don't tell a person what emotions are behind an letter.

I was reconsidering possibly a one hour weekly show, less time and money to produce and still gives me a chance to provide some awesome memories. Then once people start listening they want more and an hour may not be enough.

Out of all honesty 300.00 per month would bring the two hour show back, This I would be able to do. 15 stations willing to contribute $20.00 per month. I know it seems easy enough, but you would be surprised how many believe it should be for free and we should find sponsors to pay for this.

If we had a sponsor yes it would, but finding a sponsor is not as easy as it sounds.

So let me ask this to whomever is reading this thread, would you want a show like this and would you be willing to support it to keep it on the air every month.

Sample show, please note this quality is much lower than what i sent out to stations.

Understood completely. It's one of the reasons I don't talk about too much on forums, there's no personality in it.

I think $20 a month is more than reasonable for a weekly one-hour show and I will be taking this to a meeting (of one of the projects I am involved in) although the project is a little way off at this point.

I do hope you find a way to bring the show back. I'll be watching this space!
