What happened to Cledus T. Judd?

both: his mom lives in Cartersville, GA...and he starts at Atlanta's 949 The Bull Jan 7

Where is Cleveus?

Tampa radio finally has a little electro-stimulation with Bubba back.
Looks like the only Tampa radio original with any extraordinary degree of
market accomplishment that is missing from the local airwaves, is Cleveland Wheeler.

Q105 is staffed with Mason's loyals from the 80s and othr long-timers are sprinkled over the market...but the market would rally be humming if Bubba, Mason, MJ, Webb and Harris AND Wheeler were all in the morning mix!

WQYK should maybe take a look at this. Now that Cleddus is on th way to Atlanta, perhaps Cleveus would be the perfect guy to step in. I thought he was great in mornings on QYK when Rivers was there.

Puddle of Judd: CBS Radio WQYK/Tampa morning personality Cledus T. Judd returned a call to Country Aircheck Tuesday morning to emphatically deny reports that he has signed a deal to do mornings at Clear Channel WUBL/Atlanta.
Judd said, I can't talk to anyone until my deal with CBS Radio is over in the first part of next year." Judd has been doing the WQYK morning show via ISDN from his home in Georgia for the last three weeks.
Judd said. "I've come to a time in my life where I had to be with my mother and wanted to be closer to my daughter in Kentucky." Judd went on to tell Country Aircheck that he plans to focus on being a radio personality. "Radio has become my passion," he said. "I love it and I've worked 12 years to get my Rolodex in shape to parlay it into this. I don't want to tour anymore. That part of my career is over. I just want to be a great radio personality."

THREE WEEKS LATER>>>>>>>BEHOLD THE CHANGE !!!!!

This time, 94.9/The Bull has dumped its syndicated Big D. & Bubba after just a few months in favor of a locally-based show starring Cledus T. Judd, the “Weird Al” Yankovic of country radio.
Judd, who is calling his show the “Cledus T. Party,” wanted to move closer to home. (His mom is in Cartersville). Mid-day host Paul Koffy will co-host. The show stars January 7, just a few days after Star 94’s new morning team, the Morning Mess, launches. Dave FM’s new morning show with Zakk Tyler will start soon after.
Judd, 42, recently left a morning show post at a Tampa country station WQYK-FM because he wanted to be home. “I had a great run there,” he said Monday. “They were some of the nicest people in the world. But my mama wasn’t doing well. I wanted to be with my friends and closer to my daughter [who lives in Kentucky.] I was dying a slow death mentally in Tampa.”

Re: What happened to Cledus T. Judd? He's Gone Now What?

With Bubba coming back,The I-man back in town,Cowhead moving to afternoons and Cledus could come back to the market somehow ( after his CBS deal is done ).
Whats the thinking for the rest of the market players ?

You'd have to imagine Clear Channel would want to turn "The Cledus T. Party" into a syndication vehicle eventually. Kinda like Big D and Bubba is, only with a little more name recognition. Who's to say CTJ couldn't resurface in the market on 103.5?

Cleddus says it all for Tampa Radio

Interesting how you mentioned Cleveland Wheeler. He recently went back home to Chattanooga TN to do mornings on WUUS-FM there. Sometime in November he left the station "to pursue other interests" according to a Chattanooga board. He did leave radio for a while for real estate if I recall correctly so I do not know if that is the other interest or not. Will be interesting to see what happens with Cleveland.

I am new to Tampa. Who is Cleveland Wheeler and what did he do?

Thanks

Read the below:
http://www.andelman.com/ARTICLES/clevelandwheel1990-players.html

Basically, Cleveland was Q105's "other" big name DJ back in the 1980s and he's probably best remembered for his epic 20-year on-air feud with Mason Dixon. Both men repeatedly stabbed each other in the back and got each other fired from the Q at least twice each. He was finally run out of town about eight years ago and ended up at XM where he claimed he was making big money to those of us he left behind.

Let's do some correcting here...

Basically, Cleveland was the originator of the "Morning Zoo" which he and Scott Shannon developed in 1980. The concept soon became copied all over the country. While Scott took the idea to New York, Cleveland Wheeler decided to stay on Q105. The show was Tampa Bay's #1 morning show for most of the '80s (I believe the only station to beat him at any point was the old WWBA 107 when it was easy listening instrumentals.) I believe Cleveland's "bio" deserved a bit more respect. He's a Tampa Bay legend.

Oldschool wanted to know who Cleveland Wheeler was...about a month ago, I was surfing over YOUTUBE and typed in his name to see if anything new would come up and about 12 vintage
videos fell in que. You might try it. Quite a bit of Tampa radio stuff on YOUTUBE.

hmm.....Judd out, bubba back in, MJ almost gone!.....Yup Hell is starting to freeze over! Lets add the final touch, Love Tiger, Steve Austin and the mexican Midget mornings on WQYK!!!
