That loosely describes their target area, pretty much the same as for 95.9, KFWR. For now, anyway. Still in the works and continuing to cost the LKCM group a small fortune in lawyer fees is their fight to get better coverage for The Ranch. If they're successful it would pave the way for KFWR to deliver a city-grade signal well into Dallas County. It's been a tough fight up to this point and it probably won't get any easier, unless they can convince a tenacious small town broadcaster out in Archer City to throw in the towel.

You can check the ratings and see what is happening. Basically, add up all the audience shares of the Country stations in the DFW Arbitron and you will see a stark difference from the 23 shares Country was delivering in the early 80's to what we have now. But, if you look at the Nac/Lufkin Country shares, it is 28.1%. That market is about 39% ethnic too. There are other similar markets where Country is strong. So, what is happening in Dallas? My guess is we are much more cosmopolitan now and young people in particular are not into country and older people are more into News Talk than Country. The whole landscape of listening to radio has changed here and that is being reflected in the ratings of the Country stations. In addition Spanish stations have carved a large share of the radio audience and that was not as much of a factor in the early 80's in the DFW Arbitron.

Hopefully one day Music Row will realize we can't see the artists on our radios. The artist may look hot but they really sound lousy on the radio. Take away their special effects & studio tricks - hand them an acoustic guitar just to watch them squirm. That would scare them past Halloween.

I buy music because of how they SOUND. Haven't been buying any new country lately...
