What happened to Ft. Wayne Media Watch?

What happened to Ft. Wayne Media Watch? It was a web-site written by a wanna-be journalist who attacked and slandered everything and everyone in TV, Radio and Newspapers in metropiltan Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Did he get sued out of existence, or just dry up? I was often the subject of the writers venom but enjoyed the attention. Although a moron, he always spelled my name right.

And whilen asking where are they now, what happened to Indiana Radio Watch, which was written by Blaine Thompson of Ft Wayne? I used to enjoy reading that, but it's been missing for quite a few months now.

Hey Bob, get off the job. Or start your own thread. You're confusing the issue and lord knows we don't want to make this too complicated. This is radio, afterall.

I won't quibble with your opinion of the operation, I will offer my own, however, and say that at it's worst FW Media Watch could be pointed, arrogant and opinionated. At it's best, it was insightful, provocative and tantalizing. While "Mr Reynolds" wrote sparingly about me, I was fortunate in that what he had to say was positive. The website, once open to any and all after media outlets and individuals, was began when places like TV33 began blocking access to their fax machines. This website later was locked down with a username and password scheme with those being changed regularly. The explanation at the time was that bloggers were stealing and reposting the information as their own. In my personal experience, email attempts to get new usernames and passwords became next to impossible, leading me to conclude that I might have been placed on an "enemies" list. While I am one of the few who know his real identity, I have never once divulged the information to anyone - not even the private detective hired by a FW TV anchor to locate the fellow.
With it's apparent demise, there is a void that someone needs to fill.

Wow, you've obviously got the dirt of this muck-raker. So did the hiring of a private investigator scare "Mr. Reynolds" out of business? Share the scuttle-butt on this sphincter muscle! I inquired about the loss of this invaluable media resource to a web-address in March 2007 and got a response from Josh at FWMW [email protected]... it began, "Hey retard."

Oh, I missed him so.

I don't think his identity was a secret, but for gods sake why would you keep it hush-hush anyway. As I understand it, "Mr. Reynolds" was a pitiful slob, hated by his own family (according to one of his estranged demon-seeds) and confined to a wheel-chair with a bed pan fastened under the pleather seat, so he didn't have to move while spreading his sewage on the internet(s).

It'll be tough to "fill that void."

I don't think I was ever the subject of any of FWMW's writings (I worked at WNHT/Ft. Wayne for a couple of years) but I really enjoyed reading the site. While I didn't always agree, at least someone was trying to hold local media accountable. We need more people like this... people who genuinely want the media to "behave" and don't have their own agendas. I was wondering if it was still up... I'm sorry to hear that it's gone.

I'm around and will be back next week! Thanks for asking!

Jo-nathan and Douglas B... You both confess never being or sparingly being the subject of "Mr. Reynolds" dillusional diatribes. Could it be you "enjoyed" his rantings or found them "insightful" because you were never the near constant focus of his obsessive smears. Now, let's move beyond the fond memories people, and start dishing the real dirt. I'm in the mood to smack him around... c'mon let's play.

MediaWatch only talked positively about the "moles" in Radio stations, TV stations, and newspapers in FW.

If you filled him in on the secret doings at FedMed or Sarkes or Kovas' regime, then MediaWatch liked, loved, or adored you. The converse argument though is that all Rich Reynolds (who is he?) said in print was partially or completely false.

I think you did quite a good job slapping him around in an earlier post, from your perspective, I'm sure you feel entitled.......

While I was not a "mole" who fed him information, I don't think I ever did anything that really pissed him off. I consider myself lucky

Let me say that he and I spoke many times and I disagreed on many of his postions, but he was always willing to listen ... at least to me. He impressed me as the kind of guy who had some very high expectations as a media consumer and did not suffer fools gladly. He also enjoyed using words that would have sent William F Buckley scrambling for his thesaurus.

With all due respect, you are entitled to your opinions...... go ahead and carry on..... I'll sit this one out.

I'm not naughtytalker -- I'm someone else that was constantly under Media Watch's radar. I was always unimpressed with his highfalutin writing style. Did he impressed the media newbies? Maybe. Did he impress the veterans? Maybe not.

Radioguy244... sorry to hear you were also abused by our favorite hate-filled scribe, "Mr. Reynolds." But if you've been in this business as long as I have, you know opinions are like well, sphincters, everybody's got one. Besides, the more the huddled masses attack the better I like it. Call it an occupational hazard or narcissism. Either way, I don't need therapy, just a cheap thrill!

Douglas B... are you a radio tough guy, ready to take the cheap shots and roll with the punches or studying for the seminary? Please don't set this one out, reverend. You've got the stink on this tabloid tattler and I'm just trying to entertain myself between air-shifts... so have a heart, albeit a cold shriveled one, and let loose with the poop on our favorite turd.

You say you spoke with Rich Reynolds "many times," and you were not a "mole" who fed him information. It's hard to believe he "impressed" you as a "media consumer" who didn't "suffer fools gladly". But I'm willing to be convinced otherwise. Here's your chance to open my mind to the glowing gospel of Ft. Wayne Media Watch. As they say, strike while the iron is hot.

I wasn't abused by him. I just didn't appreciate his tone! I miss reading his eclectic comments.

An excellent pubication. Keep it up Blaine.

Despite previous seemingly positive e-mail contact with Mr. Reynolds, when the site moved behind a password wall, I was no longer able to access it. I emailed about it, and one of the various individuals that apparently works for Mr. Reynolds informed me I was not eligible to receive a password. I forget how it was worded, not exactly offensive, but not particularly polite either.

On the other hand, Mr. Thompson's return to publication will be welcomed by all.

I have been checking http://www.IndianaAirwaves.net/ in the interim.

I once called him Mr. Thompson on the phone, and he told me that was his father. <grin>

Without revealing privileged information, does anyone know who has access to RRR's words?

All right, damn it!... I'll be the first to beg... please, please "Mr. Reynolds", RRR or whoever you are, respond to my plea. I miss you, (gulp) I need you...

If you are still live, I know you are reading this website and many others all-day, every-day to feed your brillant journalistic mind. I now accept you as the consumate expert on all thing's mass media. I must question the capitalist system that stole you from the blogosphere and ripped you from my media heart. (other posters, please feel free to grovel at will)

Let us know you survive. Will you ever again focus your critical eye on Ft. Wayne television, radio and newspapers and enlighten us with your industry expertise. (excuse me now, I must shower)

Mediawatch went "behind the wall of silence" when a blog titled "Fort Wayne Media Notes" sprung up to challenge. If I remember there was threatened legal action, but if it went all the way I don't recall. "FWMN" is now Fort Wayne Observed, and while it's a pretty good source for the mainstream movements of TV and Radio folk, it's NOT Mediawatch.

I too was given short shrift by the RRR boyz for access, so I sit in the dark (well, half way, anyway...)
I really don't know what they're hiding anymore, because there's not really any competition for what he's "selling." They must like living in secrecy there.

First of all, Blaine. Good to hear from you.

As for Rich Reynolds he granted me access for a little while but for some reason he killed my access.

I left Fort Wayne's K105 4 years ago to PD Lafayette's K105 so why he would deny me I don't know.

I do know that Rich went through some health issues.

I did enjoy his faxes though. It was real entertaining to see him rip on TV the way he did.

And he was brutal to Nancy Nall from the Fort Wayne Newspapers.

All of us have opinions on competing media folks in town. Reynolds' only difference is that he wrote them down for all to see. If you are a hibrow broadcaster, it seems you largely ignored him. If you enjoyed playing "broadcasting office politics," you hung on Reynolds' every word.
