What happened to Herb Clarke?

If I remember, Herb said when he talked to KYW management about re-negotiations of his contract, (did he want to cut back and/or get more money?), they basically said thanks, but no thanks and got Fran Sorin, a CBS radio contributor. Something along those lines. I got the impression that he still wanted to do the reports, but on different terms.

Did he finally fully retire? His 4:40pm gardening feature

From what I understand, he did want to continue, but he wanted less airtime.

The garden reports were what he was doing AFTER he retired (plus some commercial work).

Trivia question: Who did the weather on channel 10 BEFORE Herb Clarke?

According to an intern friend, the gardening feature will return in the Spring if Herb is still interested in doing them. There is not a lot of interest in gardening this time of year.

How does one manage to work for a (non-voictracked) station and get less airtime than Herb managed on KYW? Amazing.

When I first heard him doing those reports, I thought it was a little sad. As time went by, whenever one came on, I couldn't wait for it to end. 'How is this news?!' I would wonder. Now that he's gone, I think I might actually miss hearing his voice on there.

It's strange how that stuff works sometimes.

Would that be one "Uncle Philsy" Phil Sheridan?

Seems logical: you had Wally Kinnan the Weatherman on KYW (nee WPTZ/WRCV) and Dr. Francis Davis on WPVI (nee WFIL)<P ID="signature">______________

I still miss Jack Eden doing the gardening reports. I felt bad for him when Herb Clarke replaced him. This time of year I always think of Jack and how I used to anticipate his Christmas tree preservative formula that I always forgot to save from year to year.

No, Uncle Philsy was at the WFIL stations. He did morning drive on radio and some TV but not the weather.

Wally Kinnan was not on channel 3 during the WPTZ era.

Heeeeeeeeeere's a hint:
He sells term life insurance.
He comes to people's front door with over-sized checks.

Hi-Yoooooo.

Maybe someone else saved it. You'd be amazed at the things some folks around here save "for posterity."

You might want to think about starting a new thread entitled "Jack Eden's Christmas Tree Preservation Formula." In the post, ask if anyone has it. The worst that could happen is no one replies!

Good luck!
