WHAT HAPPENED TO JIM BOB WITH MIKE TAYLOR ON KTKR

It sounds like he is no longer with the show. WTF, don't make me come down there and start throwin' kicks and punches around

The "Pags Windbag" thread below said CC had layoffs recently and Joe Pags was lamenting that Barry Best is no longer there. This might have been another one.

I tried emailing him, got a reply saying the email address had been permanently deleted.

Too bad, he added some good stuff to the Mike Taylor show...

Don't lay-off talent. Fire Management. I'm sure there is dead weight in management over there at KTKR. Like the Program Director.

From a message Board

"I used to work for 'em so could possibly find out what happened, but I don't listen to sports radio so I don't already know the answer off the top of my head. I'm meeting some radio buds for lunch on Thursday so if y'all have specific questions y'all want asked I'll see what I can gather. "

"Alright, so I asked at lunch today and Jim Bob was butting heads with the program director of the station. The PD would ask him to do things and he wouldn't. Asked him to take the show in a certain direction and he wouldn't, so he was let go."

"I'm not a listener, but from listening to my friends talk today, it sounds as though the PD wants Taylor to be the show and for his producers to keep quiet for the most part. But Taylor naturally pulls his producer into the show by asking their opinion on matters. "

Oh, its Peter Bolger the megalomaniac. So he wants the show to be more like Petros and Money. He must a clone of Don Martin

If they were doing well, why would he want to change the direction? I'm confused... I thought he was part of a budget cut with T-Bone and Barry Besse. If he is truly a megalomaniac as you say, and he fired everyone who didn't like him, then my guess is he'd have to fire then entire building.

I think it's risky to accept a reposting from an unsourced message board as anything but opinion, but let's just say it's fact:

1) Why is there sympathy for someone hasn't learned that when your boss tells you to do something, you do it?
2) And no shot intended at Jim Bob, but where's the concern about T-Bone, who with decades of experience and history in the market has had a lot more impact and importance in San Antonio radio, don't you think?

Peter Bolger is the Joseph Stalin of Radio People. Anyone without 100% unwavering loyalty is sent to the Gulag.
I don't get this conclusion from the info posted above.

If the boss says to change something, no matter what the reason, the boss is held accountable if that change isn't made. Seems perfectly justified for him to toss someone overboard who wants to row a different direction... assuming the rumor above is true.

Of course, there are at least two sides to every story. If Leebo65 has a different backstory, I hope he will share it.

I sent Peter Bolger an email telling him he made a mistake. To his credit he responded. Here is his reply.

"Thanks, ######. You're right. Those who know me know I'm not afraid to admit when I make a mistake and take quick corrective action. In this case, however, it's easy. No mistake. The show was doing well, but not as well as it used to be, when Mike was pretty much a solo act. We're a business. Our business is growing audiences, not limiting them. Just to make sure, we receive feedback from almost 900 San Antonio radio listeners every week and they tell us the same thing.

This doesn't invalidate your opinion. You liked it the way it was, and there's nothing wrong with that. It's natural when someone really enjoys something (or in this someone), they assume everyone else does, too.

I don't know how long you've listened to STSA, but Mike started out, with great success, as a solo act. We have great faith in Mike, who we believe to be one of the best sports talk talents in the business. I know he's determined to continue to "kick sports ass" every weekday afternoon at 4, and hope you'll be listening. Thanks for the opportunity to respond."

So did ratings drop with JimBob in there...?

Just met someone else that wants JimBob back on the show. Apparently a lot of followers of JimBob on Twitter aren't happy about this. Dawn Murphy is not getting the job done.

January PPMs are out and show The Zone has now surpassed Ticket 760 in AQH. The Ticket has slipped from .8 to .6 since December.
It may have nothing whatsoever to do with personnel changes, but it clearly shows that the PD isn't "growing the audience," which, as he points out, is his job!
