I often wonder what KPTK would do if they put some resources behind it. CBS/Seattle (presumably under corporate approval) pretty much gutted the station...which was ALREADY operating on barebones local leadership. It has never really had any local presence as far as programming presence (meaning no local show, weekend gardening shows aside, despite a huge availability of local talent); and when cuts happened in Seattle KPTK was targeted first.
We have pondered on here about "what was First Thinking" and did the tsk-tsk at how they skirted ethics, etc. to get a move-in to Seattle. But I often think it's even WORSE when a owner like CBS or Clear Channel has a station that has some potential and does all they can to BURY it for purely economic reasons. Salem, while not a huge mover of the needle, at least holds and acquires AM's to TRY to make a "go" of them.
I still think a solid play would be Bonneville acquiring KPTK (even though it's AM status is not highly desirable) and pair it up with KTTH to package as "we have BOTH ends of the spectrum covered". You could, in some ways, sell as combo (esp. nationally) to buyers who want to reach as many of the listeners as possible. Dave Ross would be excellent anchor...poss. others like David Goldstein, etc. and fill out the schedule from the bird as these stations do now.
