WHAT HAPPENED TO KNBQ 102.9?

They've been off air at least all day today.

Noticed KFMY (97.7 Olympia) is also off (at least a few hours now) - but there's carrier and no stereo pilot. I'd think that would rule out a TX power problem. Perhaps the two off-air situations are related?

Weird, considering 102.9 is on Capital Peak and 97.7 is on South Mountain.  99.3 seems to be doing fine though from South.

As for 97.7, does anyone down in the South Bend/Raymond area know if their secondary station on 107.9 (the station that took on the KLSY calls) is affected?

Meanwhile, our good friends at 104.5 KMCQ on Radio Hill have been knocked off the air as well.

KNBQ was back on earlier this morning, but transmiter off again at this moment.

KFMY I noted this morning with carrier but no pilot. But now they're on. And they've been running from Capitol Peak due to antenna problems at South Mountain.

They don't care about KLSY. Yes it is affected, because it's a rebroadcast. When using Capitol Peak, 107.9 audio is an interesting mix of KJET and the KSWW 101.7 translator (they're all in the same building). Just not enough received signal from 97.7.

Ahhh... the downside of high altitude transmitter sites !!

Notice that 104.5 is still off tonight. A little odd, I thought they were self-contained, with a generator and programming running off a PC on site. Anyone with any insight o this one?

Saving $$$. Running a rimshot with no advertising. Probably cheaper to turn all of these dogs off ;)

Huh? You can't just "turn that dog off" anytime you want - unless you want to lose your license, that is.

Methinks you should stick to making silly predictions about morning shows and station ratings and steer clear of areas which you have no knowledge.

Well, they could get an STA to remain silent due to financial difficulties. There's a lot of that going on. They could stay off for a year before jeopardizing the license.

In a tough economic year it is hard to make money with rimshot signals. Sitting out a year might not be such a bad idea.

Partial market. Rimshot is usually any station that delivers less that 75% of the market in is primary signal coverage area. These stations also have trouble being heard in offices within the edges of their coverage pattern. KFNK, KNBQ, KDDS, KRKO, KKMO, KMCQ are all examples of rimshot stations.

Any distant DX happening on 102.9, 97.7 or 104.5?

Not sure if this is DX or not, but I was driving up highway 20 near Concrete a few weeks ago and could pick up 102.9 clear as a bell. 178 miles according to Google maps.

Nah - I bet their Linux-based automation system had a "kernel panic". :)
