What happened to Mix?

What happened to the once great Mix? For the first month in many years, Mix is NOT the #1 billing station in Vegas!!! Is this a product of sliding PPM numbers, a sliding sales team, change in management or just a fluke? I know they have gone thru of huge turnover in staff over the last couple years, starting with the GM and PD. Followed by numerous jocks and business office people. Not to mention a second GM turnover more recently when Bob Proffit went to Portland after only staying with the company for 6 to 9 months. But I think the sales staff is pretty much the same. What the heck happened?

Here is a guess. This has to do with the demise of JACK. They played mostly rock and had a high composition of men in the audience. The POINT is now one of the few stations left that target adult males (although I don't think they are as male heavy as sister station KOMP). There are many more stations targeting women and they have to split the female ad buys. This made it possible for KXPT to jump ahead of KMXB in sales.

You are right about all the changes at MIX. Mark & Mercedes and some promotional events are the only things on the station that hasn't changed. The POINT is the exact opposite in that regard. They are the most consistent station, nothing ever changes. They are like a comfortable pair of old shoes. I don't think agencies care about things like this, they just buy the numbers. But perhaps local clients have an appreciation for the stability of the station, especially if they have gotten results.

Mix has Mark and Mercedes who totally make that station...Can the average listener name anyone else on that station BESIDES them. The numbers show the station dying after 10 am. They used to have TALENT on that station like Nikki, Koz, Tom Mitchell, Jason Rooney, Paul Sands...now who do they have? It's not like KLUC where you KNOW their line-up!

Let's get it correct! Mix is losing its star power because of lack of talent! At one time Mix had strong talent who cared to be on air with the passion to win! Today, Mix has talent that could care less about the listener and that starts with Mark and Mercedes. They've got so big, to do local remotes they send J.C. or somone else out for them. Pomy is good but I don't hear her localizing herself and caring about the community. Tempesta, his t.v. show is far to important for him to care about small time radio. He is looking for bigger and better! Drea, honestly she sounds horrible! I cannot listen to her show. She just cannot capture me for even 30 seconds.

I remember a time when Mix cared! M&M strongly believed in their local listeners! Koz, Nikki, Tom Mitchell, Jason Rooney, Paul Sands, Charese Fruge, Kade, Eric Roberts, Leah and Tom Stone were names you knew and loved! They were talent that did everything it took to make that station #1!

Mix is also losing respect amongst its listeners cause they are no longer 24/7! Cutting cost in CBS Radio is killing the station too! Mix lost the fact that Las Vegas is a 24 hour town and loyal listeners also listen during the grave shift. Bankers hours don't apply in Vegas! Show more love to your listeners and stop sending them to other stations.

Most important, answer the request lines!!! This group of jocks never answer their request lines! Ring ring ring and no answer. Stop doing your production while on air and answer the phones! Localization starts with listeners on air. Building a loyal fan base starts with showing love to your listener by shaking hands and kissing babies. Next, putting your listeners on the air with you! Want to be the best of the best... then do what the talent before you did. Love thy listener and thy listener will love you back!

Case in point: CBS hires yet ANOTHER General Manager today! Jerry McKenna joins CBS Las Vegas and Dave McDonald gets the boot. Most recently, Jerry was the GM at Entercom in Seattle but has been out of work for the past year or so. He will be Tom Humm's 3rd replacement at CBS Las Vegas. The two guys before Jerry lasted about 9 months or so (Bob Proffitt and Dave McDonald). Any bets on how long this new guy will last??? I gotta tell you, some big wig at CBS corporate isn't looking very smart at this point. But Tom Humm has got to be laughing over at Beasley.
