What Happened to Old WLSO-FM/WSKT-FM Transmitter Tower?

I know that WSKT-FM was sold and is now known as WCLS-FM, broadcasting from a much smaller transmitter tower in Ellettsville, IN. However, I was curious to know if anyone knows what happened to the old WLSO-FM/WSKT-FM transmitter tower, which was located off of White Springs Road, outside of Spencer, IN? From the current Google Maps image (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=+"Whi...e+Springs+Rd,+Spencer,+Indiana&gl=us&t=h&z=20), the tower is collapsed onto the ground and may still be there. Does anyone know if a storm did this or if any of the owners did this, once the station moved to its current Ellettsville tower location? Why would one dismantle such a tower, when someone else might rent space on it? Does insurance and risk play a part?

Thanks for anyone's input.

I do know there was a small tornado go through that area of Owen County around Memorial Day in 2007 or 2008 - after the Elletsville site was put in use (in 2006?)

It is very rare to see a crumpled tower on the ground like this - especially if it did fall in that tornado. You'd think Mid-America would have sold the tower for scrap by now.

Didn't know it fell. Big 500 foot tower at one time. Recall not fondly driving to the building wondering about grass fires as it wasn't mowed much if at all. It was a grazing field for cattle I recall.

This didn't make the news. Nice to see it crumpled as tower designers claim it should.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Brother Marty, does Mid-America even know the tower is down? The transmitter building appears to still be there, in this satellite image. I am wondering if the transmitter was still on the tower when it fell. If so, is it possible the transmitter is still out there? Do you know if anyone else was using the tower, at any time? I do not know what weight the tower was regulated to hold; but, having seen the tower when it was still up, I was surprised not to see more "things" on it, when I drove past it, years ago. Again, thanks for the information, guys; it is definitely interesting. I would love to read more, if you have any additional details. I checked news sites, newspapers, etc. and also came up with nothing.

Thanks, again!
