What happened to Radio Data Services (RDS) on Q100?

It just disappeared about a week ago. When it was working, why couldn't they show the artist/title info like their sister station 99X?

They probably made a change in their music server and/or their software program. Or the engineer tripped over the power cord and nobody who works there has a new enough vehicle to have noticed it is off!

They might be running a backup transmitter which doesn't have RDS...

The RDS generator is not generally integrated into the transmitter; it is either in series between the processor/stereo generator and the exciter or fed into the exciter through an SCA input.

Hey SSSnake,

Littlejohn is an engineer......he may even know that ol' enginerd who built the place.
Did you read his(Littlejohn) legal stuff?(See Barnes/Cumulus/lawsuit et al) You guys would have much to talk about!

I ain't a member of the Bar. I do have an old FCC license kicking around someplace. I suspect tcsnrayp is right though... companies want the synergism of like systems and software, and it's likely the current and past owners didn't use the same software to deliver the data.

In the interests of accuracy though, some current excoters integrate the RDS function... the BE being a prime example. I had heard the new Continental effort would as well, but I don't think it's hit the market yet.

I'se thinkin' your daddy used to be a judge over in Ala-ca-bamer Littlejohnny. If you'd just listened to him you'd be closin' real estate and chasin' your secretary 'round the desk instead of bein' old and poor and makin' the radio go thump thump for a livin'!!
