What happened to Studio 106.1 WXSH?

I was listening to Studio 95.3/106.1 and noticed that they are no longer saying 106.1. Im to far from Pocomoke Ciy to know if 106.1 is still on the air.

Great Scott, the owner has taken it off the air. They've done this before. They bought 106.5 (now 106.1) along with 107.5 (now 107.7) several years ago. The moved 107.5 from Exmore, Va. to Fruitland, Md and downgraded it from 50KW to 25KW, then they had a deal with several Virginia stations that wanted to upgrade and move location, to downgrade it again, move the tower site (to Pittsville just south of Rt. 50) to 6kw.

106.5 (which is now at 106.1) when off the air about 7 or 8 years ago, then the leased the station to Bay Broadcasting WBEY, which also changed frequencies from 96.9 (bad interference from an Atlantic City station to 97.9). The owner of Bay Broadcasting had nothing but problems with Great Scott, and at one time wanted to buy the Pocomoke City station. When his lease ran out, he station was dark for just under a year (FCC rule 1 year and a day, it's gone). I suspect they get all the coverage they need with 95.3 since it covers the populated part of the Salisbury-Ocean City market, and they don't need the coverage of 106.1 and want to save money. The used 106.1 to test STUDIO 106.1, then added it to 95.3.

Great Scott moves they're programming around quite a bit, BIG was originally on 101.7 and 98.5, then only 98.5 and now 103.5 and 98.5. The "B" was on 101.7 and 95.3, now only 101.7. They lease out their AM in Georgetown to a spanish group, and just throw something on the AM in Seaford, 1280, which has ground system problems, too close to RT. 13.

The owner, Faye Scott is getting up in years, and I think her son Mitch is running the company. I suspect when Faye passes on, the stations will be sold, since depending on when that happens the inheritance tax could be back up to 55%, most family owned businesses can't handle that chunk of change.

I hope this helps.

Too many stations and not enough income would be my guess.

I do know that Mitch is in charge of the stations now. He has NO IDEA how to run a radio station. He flips formats when ever he wants. He also shut off the 1st AM station his Dad started in Pottstown, PA. Im my opion he's an IDIOT!
