What happened to the RTN Network up here??

Ever since mid-Saturday (1/3) or so, programming has been erratic, doesn't follow programming guide (EPG on my digital converter),shows are starting at 10 till the hour, and some shows repeat twice in an hour.... Anyone know what the status is with this or how long it will last?

We've really enjoyed it since we got our converter box in November on channel 7.2 but local affiliate KIRO is not saying a thing. It was a nice break from usual programming but now it's very unreliable and we're missing shows.

Also, website for RTN (RTNville.com) is down consistently. Ideas? Answers? Happy new year, :-\ sheesh.

Check the national TV discussion boards. Looks like the parent company for RTN has gone TU. The shows are all housed locally, so they are still being shown on some former RTN affiliates for now, but the automation is not feeding nationally at this point- so no additional content is being sent downline. I am sure KIRO is scrambling to figure out where they are going to get programming for 7.2, as the current condition will not last long. I see that KING has replaced the defunct Weather+ with Universal Sports, for now. I don't know what the other Seattle stations are doing with their .2 channel, if anything. MyQ had "The Tube" network, but that one died some months ago.

Correction to my previous post. It appears that the "new" Retro TV network will be replacing the old RTN over the course of the next few days. They say that it will be pretty much the same as the old network, but some bugs with the local equipment in each city have to be worked out. Stay tuned.

Equity went bankrupt? That's sad. They were really innovative, using a centralized master control for ALL their stations. CBC does that from Toronto, Ont. now I believe.

As for "The Tube" it has been dead for over a year. This makes me sad as it was great 'background' at parties or if I just needed some 'noise' in the room. It was really broad, airing old concerts from the 60s and 70s to current artist videos. Sort of KMTT on the TV.

Equity owed the owner of the satellite used to carry RTN, (Intelsat), over $500,000.00. On January 4, 2009, a contract conflict between Equity Media Holdings Corporation and RTN interrupted the programming on many RTN affiliates. As a result, the new owner of RTN, Luken Communications restored a national RTN feed from its headquarters in Chattanooga, Tennessee, with individual customized feeds to non-Equity-owned affiliates to follow on a piecemeal basis. Equity owned or operated stations will lose RTN affiliation immediately, though Luken vows to find new affiliates for RTN in those areas.

Luken Communications, alleging that Equity had left millions of dollars in unpaid debts to RTN's programming suppliers, moved RTN's programming to a new uplink facility using an SES Americom-owned satellite. The network's website also moved after Equity refused to release the rtnville.com domain name.

Sp typical that whenever we get something good, someone or something ruins it.

In this market, RTN has a very tough economic model. Love the shows. Love the time capsule. But how many DR spots does it take to run a network?

What makes this extra special juicy is that Mr. Luken was the single largest shareholder of Equity. So, the result ended up being some sort of civil war.

Is that what it takes to run a network/TV station these days or are they just such cash cows that they dedicate 6 to 8 hours a day of their programming to those awful things?
