Bad on air talent = zero ratings... To not be able to take out the horrid radio shows on 610 is really an indictment on Mr. O'Neil. If he wanted to do KKOB lite, he should have just stayed with them.

If you really expected the new station to displace the other this quicky..you know little
about radio. If it doesn't meet your expectations, your vote is in. It will take a year to
even begin to either make it or not against Citadel.
 
The question is with KNML getting at most a 1.5 ( I know 12+) is there enough of an audience out there to warrent two sports stations? Latest trend has KNML at a 1.1 and KQTM at a 0.5 (Aug & Sept reflect the team), Joe has connections to get some money on his station which is a good thing. H.S. Sports is to make some quick cash and is not being done to get ratings (is this short sighted? or a good foundation). With KNML having, Scorpions,Isotopes,Some Lobos, and Rome They will do better with Money & Ratings Right?. My Question is why Did Joe Turn Down The Thunderbirds? it would not have conflicted with his H.S. sports and would have brought in some cash.

The Next question is what would you guys be doing if you were given 101.7 and told make a sports
station that would pass the Animal and get those 18-34 Males. With all the recent layoffs at Citidel
is the Animal Making Money?

The Final Question do you Program for Yourself? Your Owners? Your Advertisers? Or The Demo you are Targeting? I say a good station will set the Bullseye on the Target demo and go after it.

Is H.S sports the right target, to build on? I guess we should ask Henry T he has No ratings,No Money, No real studios but he is the King of High School Sports and He Now has The T-Birds.

The T-Birds must suck they were dropped By Citadel, Passed Up by The Team....

Well in the trends out yesterday The Team since hiting the air in August has 0.0
Fox Sports,Local HS Football Cowboys etc has netted a 0.0! & Thats with all those Billboards & TV ads..........So oh great Radio Brain Trust, please tell me why the latest FM talk has not caught on??? It is hard to Beat Rome,ESPN and Lobos...Thoughts OH and I See Spanish Sports is a 0.0

I think I said it at the beginning of this thread and any previous threads I've made. Do not emulate what KKOB/KNML has done. Dare to be different and Joe was not different he was the exact same. As a new start up you have to sound different to try your product.

Example... If a new company started selling Coca Cola with the exact same recipe, for the same price... Would you switch?

The biggest mistake O'Neil made was hiring Robert Portnoy. As the only local guy he is supposed to be the star. Portnoy has no excitement or connection to people so it comes across really bad. I had high hopes for The Team when first announced it is too bad that it is failing so miserably, but they didn't learn from history...

And as we all know if you don't learn mistakes from history you are doomed to repeat them... Does anyone remember the Larry Ahrens station.
 
Right On...We learn from our own personal mistakes. I agree, look at what others have done wrong
and try NOT to do that again. Local does NOT win because it is Local, You don't win because you have a Known personality.....You must find an alternative.......What would make folks turn off 610 to go to 101.7... ESPN V FOX...........ESPN wins hands down why? Becuae I know thos guys from TV!!!!

This town is not big enough for 2 sports stations
 
I don't know if I agree with you about it not being big enough. It is big enough but you have to do it differently then the established one. The Team keeps talking about how they are a local station, yet they have no real local talent. Portnoy is an import. The Team could have been a breath of fresh air instead they get Mike Roberts on. The Team needs to create their own niche rather then try to knock off 610. If they could create their niche in the market sounding different people will come. I think Robert is a nice guy, but that doesn't make good talk radio!

I don't think 101 had to go shock radio but some controversy and some heat would have gone over well.
