What happened to the Urbans?

The beat and K-104 both seemed to slip this ratings period. Damn those Ipods!

Could be a problem with the sample used...basically they lost 1.5 between them and no one (of the logical alternatives) picked up any of them as KHKS, KSOC, and KRNB remained flat.

This is my take on it: Some of these young people are fed up with the hip hop that's being shoved down their throats. Therefore, K104 and The Beat has lost some of its listeners to KRNB, since KRNB is now playing young-leaning r&b. Meanwhile, 94.5 has gained the "old-heads" that can't relate to the young-leaning r&b that KRNB is now doing, and want to hear their r&b classics which are still being played on 94.5. So it looks like the "urban pie" of Dallas/Ft. Worth is now sliced a little more evenly.

My turn...

That pie has a helluva lot meringue... all that fluff is finally being cut down to size. Buc is right on. The thug appeal ain't what it used to be (memo to CHEAT'um and Tracy) because of overused catch phrases, bad beats by small ballers not wanting to pay for the originals (RIP James Brown) and a not-so-pretty rep as seen in the news every damn day. Urban AC is coming on strong with Nu Soul, young R&B (by you know, talented people that can actually harmonize) and nice lyrics. You watch... Steve Harvey is gaining his numbers in this market for more than being a local boy done good. He gets it and it relates in this market. Rickey and Skippy need to pay heed and take note.

Ah, I miss the days of JAMZ and 104 sans the "fizzz-oh". ;)

I believe this is just proving that hip hop is dying a slow death.....

Hip Hop is not dying, but its losing its audience because its the same crap over and over. Then radio plays the hell out of it. Record companies are not trying to break anything new and fresh. KRNB and other Urabn AC stations are playing fresh R&B and kids are buying it and downloading it.

Classic hip hop would make a lot of money if someone would be willing to try it.

When I listen to KBFB (as well as KKDA-FM), a lot of the material is heavily edited. Since the songs are altered when aired in this manner, does this perhaps contribute to preferring other media to hear hip hop?

OK, so there is a compromise and a marriage of terms here... Hip Hop is not dying. After the glorious birth it had during the days of Krush Groove, Treacherous 3 and Kool Herc, death doesn't become it. However, I think puberty has made hip hop one ugly baby. The true legends of hip hop are the lyricists - KRS, Chuck D (who turned 49 two days ago, dang!), Mohandas Dewese (anyone care to try that one without going to the web first?), Big Daddy Kane, Rakim and even Nas. Now, that geography has taken over (East Coast, Dirty South, etc.), who cares about lyrics?! It's all slurred, too repetitive and vulgar as anything.

THAT is why the iPod is killing Hip Hop radio... because these idiots can't make a record without making it laden of cuss words, it's time to download, ergo, ratings are plummeting because of idiots like Cheat-em that can't embrace what Hip Hop was and bridge what it has become.

I even heard Shay...er...uh...KRNB play some Common and Jill Scott the other day. Now, that is what I'm talking about. When will the REAL hip hop station in DFW please stand up?

Mohandas Dewese (anyone care to try that one without going to the web first?), KOOL MOE DEE....

True Dat VDV...Remember back in the day when we were in the Jamz/KHVN production room and I played you Straight Gangstaism from the Ghetto Boys. The beats were slamming, the lyrics were on point and all was right in the world. Now with this chopped and screwed stuff, I can't tell one song from the other.

Hip Hop back in the day was multifacited...You had the Native Tounges, the Stop the Violence movement/Black Power Movement. You had the 5 Percenters. You had the West Coast/Gangster. You had the party jams. All that within the Hip Hop/Rap community.

Man those were the days.....Thats what I miss.

Oh I miss 100.3 Jamz soooooo muuuuchhhh!!!!!!...... :'(
