What happened to WSJS?

Saw the ratings on All Access. No WSJS. 2 entries for WZTK. What's up?

Might want to look again. SJS is just above ZTK - in 12th place - down one full point from Winter 08. Worst number since Glenn Scott retired.

AllAccess has it pretty screwed up - with a listing for WSJS as oldies (same number) and still listing CBS as the owner. Looks like someone may not have updated the SIP.

As a newcomer to Winston-Salem, I've found SJS to be listenable when they have local programming on. Rush/Hannity/Levin/Larson make my ears bleed though...

Therein lies part of the problem - sorta like playing country in the morning and rock in the afternoon.

I don't get to listen often, but to my ear WSJS sounds better than it has in a decade. Freeman is good in mornings and he clearly knows his stuff as a programmer. I suppose if Curtis had an ulimited budget they would be local all day. But how can you criticize them for Sean, Rush and the rest when 99% of the talk stations nationwide use the same formula?

I can get all those talk show hosts on the tv if I really cared that much about them.
Or on the other 99% of news/talk stations that also play them.
The format to me is kind of getting played out of relevance by oversyndication.

I used to like to listen to WFNC, they've done the same thing, I think they have one hour of local talk shows a day now.
And eleven hours of "Coast to Coast" a day on the weekends, according to their website.
It was kind of interesting when news/talk formats first started, and the hosts weren't EVERYwhere, but now, EVERYwhere you look, it's the same people saying the same old things.....

Problem is, it sounds like two different stations - most hometown, folksy, non-combative from 5AM to 12N, then a whole different style from Noon to midnight. Haven't seen any dayparts, but I suspect Rush and Sean are doing OK in the ratings.

Brian seems to work hard and is well prepared. Just takes time to replace a 25-year morning show. Not sure the billboards do much to build their cume. They really should spring for some TV and try to attract some younger demos to the station.

One think to note about News Talk in the Spring book - Combined WZTK and WSJS share is good enough for 4th place. Format remains strong in the market. Add WMFR's half-a-point and the format moves to third place.

WSJS has a good product and if they stick to what they have right now, it should
continue to do well.
While most "news/talk" outlets have the same shows, this is something no one
can get away from since certain programs are drawing a core of listeners.
In addition, 1200 AM does help during the day.
