What Happened?

Trends are out and what happened to JACK?? Actually nothing. KQOL is dying a slow death and KJUL comes in at #9.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this trend only includes one solid month of Jack? So, it's quite possible it's being weighed down by two crappy Lite months. Does anyone know?

I did notice that every station that I figured would be affected by Jack took a dip...

Kool 3.3 - 3.1
Star 3.5 - 3.1
Point 3.9 - 3.3
KKLZ 3.9 - 3.0

...I thought Mix would be affected...but nope.

...and with WNR pushing a 9.0 for the trend...isn't about time someone flipped country. (I say this knowing it has been a market cry since FMS flipped to the ill-fated KISS.)

What I find interesting is that Jack was stable YET every station you would think Jack would hurt did get hurt (except for Mix 94.1 who hit a record high possibly due in part to a gain from displaced Lite listeners). But all the classic leaning stations like the Point, Star, and KKLZ were down. KOMP was down too which leads me to believe Jack was getting a healthy dose of male curiosity sampling. I'm not sure if Jack has anything to do with KQOL trending down. At first glance you would say no because the stations share very little music (although Jack on occasion does play 60s titles as well as a fair amount of early 70s music). But it's worth noting that oldies K-Earth in LA DID go down during the first couple of Jack trends in SoCal.

Since Jack is stable overall yet has impacted so many rock stations my guess is that they have gone up in males and down in females. Obviously many of Lites females switched to Sunny who had the largest overall gain of any station. Many people on this board including myself expected KSNE to be the biggest winner of the Lite to Jack switch (not that it takes rocket science to predict that one).

KWNR had a phenomenal trend. I can't remember the last time a Las Vegas station had that high of a share. They will be dropping off a huge month next trend so they may fall a little closer to earth.

Clear Channel has 3 of the top 4 stations. After the Lite to Jack flip I expected CC to benefit because their cluster has less stations for Jack to steal audience from, especially compared to Beasley or Lotus.

As you mentioned Mike, KJUL is down to 9th place (and far lower in the money demos where they never did good to begin with). I wonder what is going on to cause KJUL to go on a freefall like this?

Another highlight of the trend is KLUC overtaking Hot 97-5 for the lead in the rhythmic war.

Mikey, you are only looking at 12+ (that's all you could see, since you don't work in radio anymore)

Jack has one of the largest increases I've ever seen. In fact, I am concerned that it may do better than .......me! 18-34 & 25-54 numbers for July were pretty big.

Please go to another board. Your information is very wrong.

Here's what happened.... Jack beat KOMP, Star, The Point and KKLZ in it's first 30 days 25-54. Next month should be even better!

Damn right! He should be lynched! I think you're on (to) something, Crackerguy1.

(Imagine being so reviled by some guy on a blog, that even people who say nice things about you get stomped? "JD-loving..."? Jeeze!)

And by the way, what's wrong with being a "J-D lover" anyway? I think he's a pretty good guy....but then again, love is blind. (Heh-heh-heh....Good MORNIN' everybody!)
