What happened?

We're not done. Things are still being adjusted. The state boards required two click throughs so this brings them right to the forefront (and puts all-submarkets under them) increasing. We want every radio forum to be visible through. Putting 92 regional boards under one list would be extremely unwieldy (and further additions will help tag conversations better).

We're willing to take suggestions on how to organize them, but to us this was the best option.
Maybe just add another "region" under "Radio in the United States" with links to the top 20 market forums. You'd only add one link to the homepage, and it's just 1 click to see the top 20 markets.

With consolidation, there is just not that much happening in smaller markets.

I applaud the various changes.

As someone who mostly posts in the Florida state board, I found it was extremely difficult to get noticed. It can all be very frustrating.

While I understand the biggest markets tend to get the most attention, there's also biases that not much happens in smaller markets. Like their larger market counterparts, there's still format flips and personnel changes for starters. Rural radio is a lifeline to those who live in very sparsely populated regions, especially in the Rocky Mountain states and certainly Alaska. Even here in Florida, there's still some desolate, farming areas. I think there's some interesting stories to be told.

Perhaps these changes will encourage those from smaller markets to post a bit more.

Also, I'm delighted in seeing all the posters no longer have titles based on their number of posts. Quite frankly, I'd love to see many of them post a lot less. It's not quantity but quality of the posts. The repetition of the same comments on multiple boards along with their contradictory statements just to disagree with a poster, I believe, discouraged more varied voices to contribute.

Lastly, I've often said this radio board is like a microcosm of society. There's so much whining and complaining about the changes. There's many who think the world revolves around them. It doesn't. Simply, be grateful to have a forum such as this one where you can talk about a medium you purport to love.

First, thank you to the administrators who (no doubt) spend a ton of time trying to make this place as great as it can be. Really do appreciate it. Love that it's now easier to get to the state/local boards. However, like many others, I do miss the front page, one click access to the top markets. Even just a top ten would be great.

What happened to the North Carolina board? There was one board for North Carolina radio stations that didn't happen to be in one of the listed markets, though some people started topics that could have gone under one of those North Carolina markets.

Thanks for the comments. As the reorganization progresses, you'll see additional ways in which the "navigation" is being simplified. There were over 100 sections, and that was just too much.

Remember, all of us who help with Radio Discussions have other occupations. The redesign will be extensive, but it will roll out over a period of time. In the meantime, keep your remarks coming!

It's still there, just in a different place on the menu.

Radio in the United States > Southeastern States/Markets > Radio in North Carolina

Anything outside the Charlotte-Gastonia-Rock Hill or Raleigh/Greensboro markets, or the eastern part of the state (each of which have their own sub-forums) any other NC station can be discussed directly under the main forum header for North Carolina.

You didn't even look there before posting, I presume, because the posts from the old board -- including a whole bunch of yours -- are all right there.

If it was up to me, at this point the way radio is less and less of a local medium and more national and regionalized, I would've combined everything into one large board with tags to spotlight what market is being discussed. That is something we're going to possibly test on a smaller scale (such as for say Upstate New York with tags for Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse etc..), but would be way too big of a change to do so instead we're simply consolidating "dead" boards like putting Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont back into one "Northern New England" catch-all and combining Baltimore and the Maryland state forum.
I like the second part of this.... consolidating slower/deader boards into regional rather one board with tags..

my .01 cents worth

I'm liking the refresh! Even though I. Had to change user names etc I've been on these boards since 99. Holy wowzers 255 years. David, Lance, and everybody else keep up the great work and dedication.

This is probably the most confusing thing about the new layout. It took me a while to find Texas listed as a "Central State". 🤔

That was an odd choice. I'm actually feel a tad bit disrespected tbh. I don't know how to feel about being grouped with lousy Iowa and the southern Canadian province known as "Minnesota". 😂

Can Texas just be its own region?

Things will continue to evolve. We're going to be adjusting more as we go along and we'll be more forthcoming with them.

Honestiy, this first round was partially to see how many people pay attention and notice these.

While I understand some reorganization is needed, I really miss the top 20 markets. Now there are a LOT more clicks to get to those markets I like to follow.
Navigating around with the changes is OK once you get used to it It does get you to notice the 'state' boards instead of metro., which I have a tendency to forget they are even there.

Before logging in today, I noticed that non-members are able to post now and reply. So, membership is no longer a requirement now?
