Gotta love this. KXCS Wednesday: "... remember if you have an Arbitron Diary, write down that you listen to the X all day long".

Now that's some clever marketing. I wish I had thought of that ;)

I might be wrong, but...

isn't that ILLEGAL?

However, I have heard "if you get a little book in the mail, remember who you listen to.", which, unlike that, isn't telling them what to do.

Illegal? No. But it's bordering on "ratings distortion" and contrary to Arbitron rules. Specifically mentioning an Arbitron diary (even calling it "a little book") or talking about "ratings" puts the station at risk of being listed "below the line" or even being de-listed in the book. KXCS should know better.

Yes, one would think they would know better - especially when you consider General Manager Chris Kiske spent 9 years with Arbitron. Not surprising, though.

Gotta love this. Local radio guy "innocently" puts post about ratings distortion on website attempting to get competitor in trouble. Other posters including ex-employee of the radio station in question weigh in on "seriousness of the offense." So anyone wonder why a jock would mention filling out diaries in January in a two book market that has no diaries Jan-Mar? Come on guys, if you believe posts like this I've got $100k from the Ivory Coast I'd like to store in your bank account if you just give me your bank account #, pin, and social security #. The real question in a small market like College Station is are there any actual live local jocks that could even make such a comment anymore?

Nah. Actually heard Dex say it. There's no intention to tell Anyone In Authority about this, just a reminder to the folks who read the board that real radio stars already know you can't do this, especially if your competitors run tape. I would rather ease my frustration with those wild-and-crazy-outlaw-jocks by banging on the wall of the radio-info forum than bring The Man into this.

He does have a nice mention of his ratings success on his MySpace page.
