What happens to...

... the only show on 92.3 FM that has hosts is their local artists music show airing on Sunday nights? Jim Benson, a well-respected and long-time local music power broker is on the show along with "Pat, The Producer" and others. I'm hearing that the station is supporting the upcoming anniversary celebration of the show.

And Emmis' WRXP/101.9 New York was planning a big concert...until it was cancelled at the last minute when everyone and their brother realized the station wouldn't be in the format thanks to Merlin Media buying it. :D

Seriously, I don't know what happens to that show. Hope to find out.

BTW, nearly every CBS FM sports talker is called "The Fan".

Well, except WXYT "97.1 The Ticket" in Detroit, but they inherited that brand from their days as "1270 The Ticket".

Common sense says that show goes bye-bye when the switch (and format) is flipped.

MAYBE it migrates over to WNCX, but other than that, I think that's all she wrote.

Given Rocco's relationship with Benson and Pat via "The End," 107.3 should pick it up. That would be an automatic upgrade or complement to the "Local Music Show" with Rocco and Brad Hanson.

Honestly, I would rather see 107.3 adopt the same format stylistics as 92.3... heck, even adopt the "radio 107.3" name... move Ravenna to morning drive and perhaps keep Rocco or bring in either Dom Nardella or Verlane for afternoons. It's so blatantly simple to do.

CBS also has "The Score" in Chicago, as well as good ol' "Sports Radio" in New York, Houston and Philadelphia... and in Sacramento, just plain "Sports."

Read my message again, DJ:

nearly every CBS FM sports talker

All of those stations are AMers, many of them in the format for a long time. I mean the new wave of FM sports talkers the company has launched.

And I missed one - WBZ-FM "The Sports Hub" in Boston. But maybe they were worried about using "The Fan" so close to WFAN? Or they just came up with a unique name ("The Hub" being a nickname for Boston, of course).

Point taken, though, OMW, regarding FM sports talkers. ;)

There's really a line between the old-line AM sports stations in the CBS chain - WFAN, WIP, WSCR, KHTK, etc. - and these new FM stations.

Yet, WFAN and its big market AM sister (brother?) stations are very much in the DNA of these FM stations.

For one, I know in at least two other markets (Cleveland, according to the rumblings I've heard, will be another), they've brought in WFAN talent and have given them quite a promotion to full-time status on these new stations.

All of the new stations are called "The Fan", except for the aforementioned "Ticket" in Detroit and "The Sports Hub" in Boston.

All of them, as far as I know, have WFAN style jingles somewhere in place.

I get why they chose the name "The Fan", but really I just get the mental image of a small desktop oscillating fan and smooth jazz or something playing in the background, and not a rabid sports fan :p

sorry, that's a bit off topic, but I kind of crack a smile even after reading the name for the past few months
