What has happened to Gen X Radio?

It's interesting how they've rebranded themselves on-air as "My 100.5 Gen-X Radio" for the past two months now, yet they still have the same logo and artwork that just says Gen X Radio online. They're even airing airing iHeartRadio ads saying to find them on iHeartRadio under "My 100.5 Gen-X Radio," yet on iHeartRadio, they're still just "Gen-X Radio." It's been a really sloppy transformation, which makes me wonder if it's just temporary so that it'll seem like a subtle change when they (inevitably) drop the Gen-X part of their name.

I think that they'll inevitably go with My 100.5. The registered several domain names with that, and it seems that "My" is the branding that CC uses for their Hot Adult Contemporary stations (which is what they are now) across the country. I'm just a bit confused about why they're doing the roll out the way that they are. They should have tried to make a huge splash as a "new" radio station, instead they've taken the route of rebranding piece by piece, and those who wouldn't have listened to the old Gen-X Radio probably aren't aware of what they are now, and in the meantime they're alienating those who actually did listen. CC should know enough about branding and format changes by now to know that they're going about it all wrong (I think they could actually be pretty successful with their new format if they'd just abandon the Gen-X already and advertise themselves as a "new" station, My100.5 FM), but apparently not!

Max better watch out i like them but the frequency of 102.3 has a history of being beaten at there own game. But they got a good morning show and sara jordan has a good following. Time will tell let the games begin

Even if "My 100.5" beats The Max at their game in numbers, The Max has a lot going for it in terms of the local and targeted advertising. Between Lynda Lambert's laser hair removal and Sarah Jordan's new Buick, they can get nice and locally targeted ads. I don't think Valentine in the Morning or Mario Lopez are going to be advertising anything significant to the local community. ClearChannel has been doing some fantastic local advertising here, for example, I've been hearing very frequently on 93.1 lately that their traffic reports are sponsored by Exxon Mobil. The closest Mobil to Louisville is at least an hour away from Louisville and you'll have to go even further to find Exxon.

It is (almost) official now...

Gen X Radio is (almost) officially no more. They've redone the entire website with the new branding tonight (http://www.genxlouisville.com/main.html), and their Facebook page hasn't actually been rebranded yet... but... the link to their Facebook page is now www.facebook.com/myfmlouisville. They're still pretending to be "Gen X" on air as of right now, but if I would guess that these are the last few hours of that haphazard branding. It isn't like the change is going to be big, my guess is that they'll just do what they're already doing with new bumpers.

Now, will they get new call letters? WLGX is just meaningless jibberish now. It seems like anything to incorporate My FM Louisville is taken, i.e. WMFL, WLMF, WMYL, WLMY... even WFML is taken...

As of midnight, "Gen X" is gone from the bumpers. And their Facebook page updated to "100.5 MyFM", immediately at midnight...

Their Facebook page is still titled "Gen-X Radio".I've listened today but haven't heard the call letters.Don't know if they have been changed.CC is pretty good about changing call letters with a change.

They're still WLGX, at least they were the last time I listened about an hour ago. It doesn't seem to make sense to keep those letters since they have no "heritage" in them, although honestly, I'm betting that few of their listeners even knew they were WLGX anyway. For some reason, I've just had a static WLGX for the RDS info on my car for the station for several weeks. I don't know all of the technicalities of how RDS works, but I do know that it used to have the Gen-X Radio and song title information (I'm still getting that on other stations that have RDS info).

Might as well as call it Gen-Y Radio, WLGY-FM.

Or Call it Mix 100.5.

Great minds think alike. Generation Y pretty much exclusively communicates by text messaging and social networking. Generation Y requires constant and instant gratification, making it cheap to advertise, to get the word around quickly to rake in the fastest, easiest and most dollars from such, though it doesn't exactly build an economy or a nation, because it is not reality. But no matter; the instantaneous purchases are real enough.

I find a little irony in the fact that the new MyFM slogan is "More Variety from the 90's to Now," when at one point this afternoon, I heard the same song playing on WXMA, WLGX, and WQXE (technically not a Louisville station and I'm probably about the only one in Louisville who listens to it, but they have a decent signal across the city) at the same time. And I have, on countless more occasions in the past few weeks, found the same song playing on two out of three of those at the same time (not to mention that 106.9 overlaps at times). So much for variety...

wqxe

I use to like qxe alot more. They use to take chances with there music now they are like any hot ac anywhere. They use to play beth orton out of la and weezer island in the sun. But in the past few . years they have gotten rid of those songs and now just like 100.5 or the max. Except for the 70s they play sometimes. Nice to hear scott geottle on there.

The thing to appreciate about WQXE is that they are one of those small community stations that really does keep things local... as far as I know, there is very little national programming on there aside from the 90s version of Backtrax USA on Saturday nights. They preempt a lot of the music to air relevant local programming. And, for a station that is pretty much Hot AC, they seem to have a better and more relevant news department than WHAS. It's amazing how in these small towns, one of these radio stations can manage do much more for their community than the entire AM/FM dial of the city radio stations combined.

point taken

But format wise it use to be much better to listen to. I like there morning show with greg and holly. But I will take ben n kelly over any morning show. I see where alpha media emphasizes live and local. Maybe that means no more jackson blue and a live jock for mid afternoons on 99.7? The only thing 100.5 has going for it is there signal. Aside from that music wise there aint much difference between the max and 100.5

I didn't realize WDJX was using a national program in that timeslot (of course I haven't listened to the station in years, I'm not cool enough for their demographics anymore I guess). That's a pretty awful place to do something, even Easy Rock is local in that slot, although it really is the only time of the day that they do have anything local. The only thing about emphasizing the whole live and local thing is that there are some national hosts that actually are better choices at times, with a good example being Delilah. Like her or hate her, she is the perfect person for what she does, and I don't think any local alternative would work in her place on Easy Rock (that is, assuming that Alpha doesn't just immediately destroy the entire Easy Rock format... which I'd guess they will). But I would like to see Billy Bush pulled from The Max. It doesn't really contribute much to the station and it just screams "generic national syndication."

When main line gave mike shannon his walking papers they waited a bit and put syndicated jackson blue in there. I agree with you on delilah as long as the station plays what she plays its good. The only time I could stand the music on louie 104.3 is when delilah was on. She would play a few songs you otherwise would never hear. I bet my 100.5 goes all xmas this year but not genxmas lol. The only way anything is going to do well at 105.1 is when someone will put some money in it. Case and point i remember march of 2005 I remember lrs 105 getting 4 shares and the station was all local. Now it was never a very well programmed alt station but that was more about mainline than whomever programmed it I bet but they had decent numbers. They did invest in it so they must do the same thing in 2014. Bluechip had it sounding good when lrs went lrs alive at one o five went back on the air at 105.1 But someone effed it up very sad. I loved hearing no doubt x girlfriend and stone temple pilots sour girl. Mcgregor was awesome for a morning show then it gradually all fell apart.
