What has happenend to light 106.9???

There numbers are close to half of what they use to be!!!

In my opinion playing nickelback and bare naked ladies and lady gaga and hinder doesnt help!!! Seems to me they have lost there way over the years!!! I think the 80s weekends were cool but still calling yourself a light rock station while playing lita ford and posion doesnt make alot of sense. And dropping the ball at christmas and handing it to clear channel with 24/7 christmas music wasnt to bright either.

We now have three supposed light rock stations. Louie and the latest incarnation at wlrs as ez rock. I dont think 106.9 is all that light anymore.

I dont know if they can fix it been that way for awhile now.

Opinions...and happy 2013 and we'll keep the light on for ya lol

WENS 97.1 (Light Rock 97) pulled the same stunt 15 years ar so ago...they are country now. It was a great way to take a 6 share station in Indy & make it a 2.8 share station in a remarkably short time. Crazy thing is after they destroyed Light Rock 97, the same company launch an almost identical B105.7--Soft Rock For A Busy World which thrives to this day. I'm so glad I'm not a programmer...

IIRC, the fade away on WENS was a bit different than what's happening in Louisville.

Backstory...in '94, Chuck Knight handed Greg Dunkin an AC with an established brand and 12+ numbers in the upper 7s. Greg dropped the Lite Rock name and changed to a two stop clock but with minimal impact to the numbers. The first chink in the armor was in '96 when WZPL repositioned to flank ENS between ZPL and WTPI. From then on the three usually found themselves grouped together mid-pack in 12+ with numbers in the 4s and 5s. Didn't Emmis launch B 105.7 with the goal of hurting TPI and to give ENS some room to counter against ZPL? By then, TPI had picked up the Lite Rock name.

IMO, the major fail was when WENS primed the pump for an 80s format by doing very successful 80s weekends and then dropped them as WGRL ran with the 80s format full-time as Retro 93.9. Wasn't that the same time that ENS dropped any use of the call letters and briefly rebranded as Mix 97.1? The numbers tanked - 4s to 2s 12+. WENS never recovered even after quickly dropping the Mix name and hiring away ZPL's AM show.

Didn't the numbers drop further during the post-Dunkin Real 97-1 era? I seem to remember a couple of books in the mid 1s before the change to Hank.

I bet when new owners take over cox light 106.9 will undergo major change of some sort.

Whoever told them to do what they are doing now aint to bright!!!

If a change happens at Lite 106.9, I wouldn't expect it to soften up. What's happened there is what's happening to AC everywhere. Since PPM, we've found out that two of the three format competitors, country and oldies/classic hits, that we used to think shared the most listeners with AC aren't the biggest competitors after all. Turns out, CHR/Top-40, is a bigger competitor than both of those put together, and women's music tastes keep growing after they hit 25. "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen tests as a hit with the average 50 year old woman. Adele, Lana Del Rey and Ellie Goulding are also popular with the average 50 year-old female, and Rihanna tests popular with most women in the 40-49 age range.

So, you have three formats, CHR, Hot AC, and AC that are barely different. At this point, there isn't the product that appeals to the typical AC listener and doesn't also appeal to the typical CHR listener. The downturn in traditional AC product coupled with PPM's showing that AC shared more listeners with CHR and Hot AC than anything else has made programmers test songs they wouldn't have tested 5 years ago.

I don't believe Louisville is a PPM market yet, but that doesn't mean listening habits are what we thought they were a few years ago. The old numbers weren't as high as they seemed, and national advertisers are very much aware of that.

Are the ratings out? Since WVEZ abandoned the Christmas music franchise, how did they do? Did the Gen X station go up with their Christmas music?

And GenX now has higher ratings than 106.9. Wow.

See look at the hit light 106.9 took by not going 24/7 christmas!!! Huge mistake!!!

Genxmas got a nice bump from 24/7 christmas music. Not huge but nice!!!

Perhaps with the downtrend on the radio station, the new owner will change things
up a bit, like "LIVE 106.9. Today's Modern Mix. or FM News 106.9. The Most News, Traffic, and Weather 24/7.
That might get some new audience spinning the dial down to the right. Time will tell, as will the ARB.
