What have you heard on 520kHz ?

This is a clear frequency for me. My goal is to nab NDB F9 from Mirimichi NB someday. Sadly Ive only received co-channel bleed either from 516 YWA or 518 Navtex.

Just curious what's been heard on this frequency...

I have heard the 518 at night, but nothing at anytime on 520. Sometimes I tune to 520 to hear any distant lightning static crashes during the day just to see if there is any thunderstorms around.

I mainly hear the beacon from Petawawa, YWA, but usually only in the wintertime. At this time of the year just static from distant thunderstorms.

520 is usually a mess of NAVTEX (mainly Astoria, Oregon) and the 521 INE NDB from Montana at night.

Is that the weird Morse Code .. .-- I heard down there?

Before 530 became a mess of TIS stations beginning in the mid-late '80s, I've actually heard an extremely faint, almost completely inaudible signal some early mornings with something like a pop format with announcers that spoke with a British-like accent, but I could never truly understand what was being said. It might have even been Australia/NZ (they had stations running on 531 kHz back then.)

INE is .. -. . for morse code. Two dots for I, dash/dot N, dot E.

You probably had an Aussie 531. With the jumble of TIS stations on 530 I'm surprised Radio Enciclopedia from Cuba hasn't made it up here to WA.

although not strictly speaking 520khz, we did for many months in the 1990s heard an ABC Newsradio harmonic on 522khz. This originated from the TXer itself in Sydney (630khz) & was logged by many DXers incl myself.

I checked my LW log book and found that I logged F9 back on 4/4/2010. It's also happens to be my most distant NBD logging at 1,040 miles, and my only entry on 520 kHz.

Sounds like there's hope for me here at about 422 miles with a mostly saltwater path :D
