What Have You Won On The Air?

When I was 13, I won an Album or Cassette of my choice from 'ROR-FM. "Mighty" Mike Osbourne was the DJ at the time.

I have also won twice Album's and Cassette's on Barry Scott's "Lost 45's" as well.

I was grand prize winner of the "I stumped Upton" contest, back in 1979. I won 12 certicicates to Wendys, tickets to two Sox games, two dinners, and two nights in a hotel (the name escapes me).

I also was a retired undefeated champ on Dave Maynard's "Test the Teams". I got a bunch of gift certificates to D'Angelo's for that.

on WBZ-FM, when I was 15 (in '75) I stumped Clark Smidt with a trivia question on his Saturday morning show and won Queen's "A Night At The Opera" album

a few years ago, on WWZN, I won a season-long subscription to the Extra Innings cable TV package. That was a nice one.

Does it count if you accomplished what they were looking for, but they didn't give you the prize?

Couple weeks ago, T & R were doing TV themes of the 80s, where it was a game to challenge Fred. You call and say (not sing) the first 2 lines to any 80s theme song and if you stump Fred, you win. Don't even remember what it was, but oh well.

So I did, said the first two lines to "It's A Living" and he responds with "Mr. Belvedere!" and before I could say that he was incorrect, he cut me off.

but i'm not bitter LOL

Sure, that might as well count too! :) Come to think of it, I embarrassed myself on WRKO's morning quiz with Janet and Mike back in the day. I got the first question right, but not the second one. I still have the WRKO mug as well!

I did get a pen from one of the hosts once as a prize, I believe it was Jordan Rich, if I'm not mistaken. I play Morgan White's Trivia game every time he fills in on WBZ, never won... :-X

I won a "WMEX Good Guys" sweatshirt from the original 1510 back in 1967. I was 10 years old, so of course I ordered a small size. I didn't think about the fact that I wouldn't be able to wear it as an adult. They also gave me fifteen dollars and ten cents, and they printed my name in their local insert of "Go" magazine.

In fall '72 I won tickets to a sold-out Moody Blues concert at Boston Garden from Bud Ballou on WVBF.

Won 2 tix for the Globetrotters at the Verizon Center for last weekend from WCAP... never picked them up

Won 4 tix for the home show from WATD... didn't go

Won something from WZLX Breakfast with the Beatles... They never sent it

Won a coffee mug from Howie Carr/ WRKO never got it

Won 2 tix for the Beatlejuice show NYE about 3 years ago from WZLX... Nosebleed seats but we had the table next to the bands families....

Won 2 tix for N.E. Dragway from WRKO back in the 70's... rained that weekend didn't go
Won a 25 dollar GC for a place at Quincy Market from WBZ a couple of months ago.. have not used it yet.
Won 2 tix from WZLX to see an all star band type of show about 20 years ago... was a great show, ended up going with Harvey Warfields producer, who also board op'd midnight to 7 AM Sunday.. we left early to get her to work on time.

I've always been the one on the "giving" side, which is cool.

What amazes me are the Prize Pigs.
Market 1 or Market 1,000, they smell a prize and somehow eat em up.

At other radio station remotes, you will see the same listeners trying to win stuff that were at YOUR remote the other day.

oh yeah... I won a poorly made mix CD-R from some music trivia "expert" on either Steve or Jordan's show on WBZ. The jewel case was broken and the musical selection left a lot to be desired but I'm a pain, that way ;D

By the way, I still have that Queen LP!

Won something from WZLX Breakfast with the Beatles... They never sent it

DAMN THAT CHACHI! You should call toucher and rich on monday at 3pm and inform them of this. A long running bit on thier show is to harrass Chachi as he works for both BCN and ZLX. They used to do a weekly "awards" segment where they gave kudos to listeners who contributed, guests, and themselves. They called them the chachi's because chachi is the classiest guy in radio. Chachi is the former host of your mothers on the roof Chachi has been known to say "I love hairy balls" "the beatles suck", and "I didnt say that!!!"

I have met ChaChi a couple of times, we email back and forth on Beatles stuff on almost a weekly basis. Seems like a nice enough guy. His main function is Promotions. I remember when Barry Scott was the promotions guy for ZLX pre Infinity/CBS.

Who listens to BCN anyway? Place went down the crapper when they sent Charles to ZLX, canned Parenteau, brought in Stern, O&A, DLR, and others.

Won $1000.00 from WZOU in the fall of 1991. Went to pick it up, received a tour of the station on Bear Hill Rd. at the time, and met Human Numan. Got to be in the studio while he did a live spot too.

Now that must have been a lot of fun!

Oh, that reminds me, I won free backstage passes to a CeCe Penison show from WZOU back around that time too. However I didn't have a car, and that very weekend, the cab drivers were threatening to strike, so I never went at all.

Beatlemania tickets from Dale Dorman...

Colonial Theater...just remember the Playboy rabbit on the side of the old Playboy Club when we walked outside.

I also believe Aldo Nova was George.

I'm from Connecticut.

In 2000, I won tickets to a New Britain Rockcats AA Baseball game from a neat little station in Middletown, CT. They had a Swap Shop Show and the host said he had tickets for a few different games, and the callers could call in and say which tickets they wanted, so I did. (The only thing I hated was having to give out my address out over the air). The game ended up being a double header, but my Dad and I only stayed for Game 1 because we didn't know how late the other game would be ending and he had to be up to go to work at 5AM the next morning.

I won a Radio Station copy of some really crappy R&B CD from a low-budget AM hip-hop station. It came with a bunch of other crap. The PD (also the morning man I won the prize from) of the station didn't want me to know the station was in the suburbs and not the inner-city and he made me pick up the prize at the local hip-hop clothing store in the town I lived in. He told me he was gonna have it there for me to pick up the next day. We went down their and the owner thought I was nuts and my mom got into a loud argument with him. The next day my mom was still pissed off so she called up the radio station demanding to speak to the PD. He was out of the office on business, but the seceretary promised the prize would be at the store that afternoon and it was.

I won another prize from that same station, but never picked up at the store.

Sometime later the station changed management became an all tall station and I won tickets to Six Flags New England for sharing a story about what annoys me. They did a thing called "Fed Up Friday". They mailed them to me. My father gave them away at work.

I also had the opportunity back in 02 or 03 to win a key that could possibly start a fancy car from WTIC 1080. They announced my name (of course I wasn't listening to the station a family member called me to tell me I had 10 mins to call them). Problem was I had lost the special call in number. It wasn't their regular 522-WTIC call in number. And on top of that I didn't have a driver's license.

There used to be a neat little community station in the town where I grew up called WBIS 1120. They used to do Live Remotes from The Bristol Auto Club Saturday Nite Antique Car Shows. They used to give out prizes to people who answered trivia questions. I was a little boy maybe 9 or 10 and I remember I passed up the opportunity to win a dozen donuts for knowing the answer to the trivia question. I let some other guy win.

Well, I am a 25 year old male and I listen to WBCN almost exclusively the only other station I listen to is WMWM. Everyone single person I know in my age bracket listens to WBCN more than any other station. Myself and most of my friends listen to Toucher and Rich religiously and go out of our ways to listen to the whole 4 hours. The problem is that almost everyone I know in my age bracket (which is an important demo) only has a cell phone not a home phone. If Arbitron would come into the present and figure out how to do the ratings properly these days I think WBCN would have a much bigger share that wnat is shown right now.

Two words for you, people meters, and they will be coming here...eventually.

I just remembered yet another contest that I was on, well it wasn't really a contest but a give-a-way on WRKO a few years back when they used to have the show "Funny Business". I got on the air and for my suggestion they sent me a video tape.

In October, 1969, when I was 12 years old and in 7th grade, I won the top 100 lps of the week from WMEX. It was a halloween "scary monster" contest, where a line from a song was played at half speed and I had to identify it. They played the same clip until someone won. I figured it out the night before and got through the next morning before school. It was a line from Simon and Garfunkel's "Sounds of Silence."
I took the subway down to the combat zone and picked up those records with a friend. There were so many excellent albums in that bundle.

I was already an avid radio listener, but winning that contest probably changed my life.
