What horrific ratings kabc is getting!!!

Cant that station be fixed???I think this proves that citadel need have nuttin to do with radio ever!!!Looks like they are butchering kgo in sanfrancisco wtf!!!There needs to be a radio police seriously!!!First they would have prevented citadel from buying any abc stations and they would have prevented bains capital from buying clear channel.Thats been a disaster!!! Premium choice need i say more. They cant get away w it in bigger markets but they do in smaller markets!!!

Those r just 2 of the worst things that have happened in radio since this new millineum began. First larry elder was a decent idea but they do not build on it. They should have kept frost n given him his own show. Dump imus hannity and levin. There political philosophy has nothing to do with it. Add ziegler frost bring tom leykis on board. I dont care as long as its good radio n local and live!!!

I mean it is really bad programming on weekends on that station pathetic kids!!!How many infomercials???

As i stated before i came here first in 2000 and enjoyed the station much more then kfi now look at it! Sad very sad ???

Citadel's talkers don't do terrible, WABC in New York does well as it does contain the "big talkers" (Rush and Hannity).

I don't listen to talk radio, though I frequently listen to Tim Conway Jr's show on at weeknights. Especially the "What the hell is Jesse Jackson saying" segment ;D I stopped listening to KABC since they dropped FHF. Since then it was back to KIIS middays!

What's up with KABC anyway? What's the reason they do so terrible?

KGO, since PPM started, has been around or below 20th in 25-54. KCBS, which smartly added an FM simulcast, is in the top 2 or 3 most of the time in the sales demos, as is KQED.

That's a situation that can't be put on Citadel's doorstep. AM is getting older and older in the sales demos, excpet for a few sports stations.

Obviously, that was a business mistake, since they decided to re-sign Seacrest for $60 million for three years.

A big part of the KABC issue can not be resolved by any owner: the 5 kw signal on a congested channel vs. the 50 kw clear channel of KFI.

Of course, even KFI has an issue that its demos are getting older and it is not even top 15 25-54.

If you just realized that KABC's ratings have just gotten horrific, and or you haven't seen the ratings the last few years, they've slid down quite a bit. Start listening to KFI...like the others day, Levin, Hannity, Imus, Elder, and Tilden ALL need to be removed from LA Radio. The ratings would be improved if they hired more younger hosts, or someone that actually has humor, not the bland crap that we hear from the ultra conservatives.

How well does kabc do in there main demographic which i guess is 80 or so lol but seriously do they do well in billing?

I dont think age or poltical philosophy has that much to do with it. Example i find rush funny he is around 60 and i dont agree with him that much and same with stephanie miller i dont agree with her all the time but she is very funny.

So much for the genius' of Bob Moore and Jack Silver. ALL HYPE!

I too stopped listening to KABC after FHF were let go. I even removed KABC's app from my iphone. Even my favorite Doug McIntyre got draining with the idiot callers that plague overnight talkers. There is nothing that station now offers to anyone under the age of 40. I wish local issues would be covered and explains KFI's ratings. But KABC management over the years has been so arrogant that even with evidence that they were sliding into the grave they chose to program it their way. What was the need to bring tired and predictable Larry Elder back???? Why not put on a new local host that isn't so predictable?

Enough of my ranting's I've gone back to KFI, KPCC and the Frank and Heidi podcast....Couldn't be happier Jack and Bob.

Hasn't KABC always had an inferior signal to KFI? But, back in the day (the 80's), KABC was huge, ratings-wise. They had good talent, Ken & Bob and Michael Jackson to name a few. They were also well-promoted; everyone knew KABC back then. Many folks credited George Green's management. Moreover, I think ABC did know how to run radio stations back then. Disney may have been the beginning of the end for KABC but Citadel put the last nails in the coffin. Some companies do have better management than others.

It would be interesting to compare their current ratings to those that existed during the Drew Hayes era.

Remember, back then Drew was supposed to have been the problem, and as soon as they could get rid of him, ratings would go up because "anyone would be better". This is not a defense of Drew, just an "inquiring minds would be curious to know" thing.

KFI did not really become talk until, I believe, around 1988 to 1990.

By the 90's, the noise level in LA had risen so that few quarter hours were recorded for at home or at work listening outside the 10 mV/M contour of any AM. In the last diary surveys, where we could break at home, at work and in the car, it looked like 15mV/m was where about 95% of the quarter hours came from.

KABC has suffered from a shrinking interference free zone (not the FCC's "Interference Free Contour" which is something else) while the population has moved north to Valencia, south beyond Irvine, and filled out the Covina to Pomona area, too. KFI has improved programming and KABC has not remained competitive.

Is AM 710 a better signal than AM 790? I ask because I seem to remember when Disney/ABC/ESPN used to own 710, which is still ESPN today, and 790. Perhaps KABC should have been moved to 710 back then? There would still be the programming issue though....

Both 710 and 790 are impaired, but in different areas. 710 does much better in the San Fernando Valley, but has big nighttime signal issues in Orange County. If you're programming what KABC is programming, you can't have signal issues in Orange County.

Aside from 9 till noon and douglas mcintyre kabc is garbage no ifs no ands no buts. Get rid of the f-ing sports. kabc should be ashamed of the trash they call a product n put on the air!!!I would love tell you love to see the fcc shut you down forever!!!

Pat, take two chill pills and step away from the keyboard. While KABC may not be your taste these days, it is still the 3rd highest rated AM station with many thousands of people tuning in. The FCC is not meant to shut down stations you don't like, and your posts are becoming more and more unhinged.

Channelflipper u know kabc is garbage there is very little that is good about that station. Oh yeah i forgot to say john phillips at night is decent. I know the fcc cant do that just felt like venting!!!It still is overall a very poorly programmed talk station and an embarrassment to be in the #2 market in the country!!! Look at there numbers channel flipper they are pathetic overall! Now i guess they do well n there demographic but if i were an advertiser i would never advertise on kabc no matter how good the deal was but i would on either kfi r krla.

If they shut down KABC Larry & Doug will be gone as well. :(

LA radio is a smörgåsbord. There are plenty of shows on the dial. ;)
