What I am worried about concerning Christmas music in Philly

Everyone is speculating, will 106.1 take the helm like Sunny did, long before the holiday begins. Will BEN try it, will the all new 97.5 give it a whirl. Then again, will B101 start early, if there is no one else doing it or will they wait until the last minute. All these thoughts, but the real question I have is, if any of these stations launch it, will it be the same selection of great gems that Sunny had last year. You must admit, Sunny had a wide playlist of Classics, Standards, Vocals, Instrumentals, Novelty, etc., would any station picking it up do it the same way. If not, is it really worth it, Sunny was one of a kind, unique. I don't know who programmed the holiday music, was it done local in house, or in some other area, did other CC stations acquire the same holiday music or was this just tailor made for Philly. I just hope whomever picks it up, if someone does, will do it like Sunny did. Need some help, is there a certain channel on XM or Sirius, that programs Christmas music early, with the same playlist Sunny had, any help would be appreciated, if someone had one of those services last year and knows what to expect.

I fully expect B 101 to have Christmas to itself this year unless another station uses it as a bridge to a format change after the holidays.

I completely agree about Sunny's Christmas music selection being superior to B101's. Sunny included all of the traditional standards and classics, while B101 seemed to be hooked on Gloria Estefan (gag!) and other modern acts. Most people, I believe, associate Christmas with the classics, and I hope someone goes forward with those as well. Although, they can throw "the Waitresses" if they want. :)

106.1 will do it!! sunny P.D. is at 106.1 they will use it to try and get people to listen to 106.1 and hope that they will stay after christmas time.trust me 106.1 will be the first to go all christmas!!!!

Wont happen not unless whoppie Quits and then 106.1 stunts with x-mas music until a new format is found

It wouldn't seem right for Philly's 106.1 to play Christmas music.

"You're listening to Philly's 106.1. Feel the energy" followed by Bing Crosby's "White Christmas".

I'm sure they can find some c and c music factory and 2 unlimited X-mas remixes to fill the hours. If not there is always the 24/7 loop of feliz navidad on Rumba.

Hey guys have no fear because just west of you in Lancaster 101 The Rose should be going all XMAS mid-novemeber!!! So if you want it go get it then.

They are online so don't worry bout that either www.roseradio.com. From what I heard and I am not a big Xmas music person, it sounded preety good.

Ya know who I think will, or at least should, go all Christmas along with B-101?

WOGL.

They've tweaked to lean more 70's this year and I think, if done like Sunny, will do very well.

Christmas music doesn't fit what 106-1 is doing right now. Maybe some novelty stuff closer to Christmas, but that's about it.

My vote is going to WOGL.

I still think it will be 106.1 the pd that sunny had is at 106.1 so that would do it and on top of that they want the christmas numbers sunny had!!!I think the frist week of nov.106.1 will be all christmas!!! they may not play Bing Crosby's White Christmas they may play more up beat christmas music.

It's called "Frist Week" because after that, he may be out of a job. ::)

you would have to ask sunny 104.5 about that.they started the christmas music war with B101.and sunny old PD is now at 106.1 I think 106.1 will keep it going!!!.

In my opinion, it wouldn't seem right for 106.1 FM to go all Christmas.

I do see a possibility of WOGL flipping to the all Christmas format (as someone else mentioned here) because CBS's oldies station in Boston flips each November.

How does the fact that the PD from one station is at another automatically lead to the idea he'll use the same stunt? Just because it made sense for Sunny doesn't mean it does for 106.

Absolutely. The people who keep using the same stunts over and over on different stations are called "consultants."

No playoff games and when/if will Christmas music start.
It must be October again on the Philly board.
Not much lower we can go unless somebody flips.

If CBS is contemplating a format change for OGL at the beginning of 2007, it would make perfect sense for them to run an all Christmas station during the holidays. Another possibility...Greater Media on 97.5. They will be changing the format of that station when they take over..in all likelihood.

One thing we need to keep in mind... If a station is flipping formats at the first of the year, it doesn't necessarily mean that the station would stunt with Christmas music.

If you were planning on switching a stations format to, let's say, Alternative Rock... why would you stunt with Christmas Music? You would attract the wrong audience with Christmas Music.

Just wondering who said CBS was contemplating a format change?

Well in the case of OGl. If it was gonna go from oldies(60's/70's) to alternative rock, it would have the wrong audience anyway.
