what i believe

After watching all of this Conan/ Jay Leno mess unfold, I have come to a conclusion...

Jay Leno is behind all of this. He knew his 10pm show was the pits. He even said publiclly that he would happily go back to 11:30. I am sure he has deep rooted ties at NBC Burbank. A simple phone call starts this entire mess.

Conan, the new kid in the city, has no one. Probably only Lorne Michaels. But Lorne is east coast. So actually he can not trust any one.

Leno loses ratings at 10pm, the local news has lower viewers. Doesn't take Harvard Scholars to figure out that there are less viewers watching NBC at 11:35.

So Leno simply blames Conan. Keeps telling the powers that be, "Look, his numbers are lower than mine were. You're losing money with this kid. You need me back there, I can turn this around"

After awhile of his calling and whining, it starts to make sense.

This is why everyone is 'turning' on Jay, except for Jerry Seinfeld. They know all about Jay, he is out for himself . Not quite 'the nice guy' everyone says he is. Oh yeah he is a hard worker, working hard to keep his own agenda.

Now NBC did this 5 years ago so that they would not lose Conan to a competitor, but they created just that. Force him out most likely to FOX as everyone is predicting.

Jimmy Fallon, should you ever become a 'hot' property, look out. Remember January 2010.

Why is NBC calling the Jay Leno Show, an experiment??? AN EXPERIMENT??? Never was that word used before, until now when they decided to pull the plug. Pull the plug, yeah after Jay whined and complained. Plus the affiliates didn't help , they were ready to dump this piece of SH!!!!

In my book, Jay Leno is a back stabbing Bast@$!!

And That's what I believe

I'm not sure that I buy the OP's logic. Why would the network listen to Jay, if Conan was the right person for the future? If Conan were so great, then Jay would simply be a bitter old man. Clearly, Conan has lost a lot of the audience at 11:35 (sorry people don't get years to prove themselves in the internet age). So, the answer for NBC is to put Jay back at 11:35am. Conan get his $$$$ to take care of his family (as Kimmel meanly said the other day).

If this were not true, NBC would have told Jay to "shove it" and left Conan at 11:35am.

NBC deserves the blame for setting up this mess 5 years ago when they announced that Conan would take over instead of letting Leno stay until he decided to leave and then possibly let Conan take over.

Agreed. I think Leno is "behind this" only in the sense that he wants his old show back. He was straight about that from the beginning. Did he lobby behind the scenes to get The Tonight Show back? Probably, but that's to be expected. He wouldn't have gotten anywhere if the affiliates weren't POed and Conan was rated #1.

Please note that I don't think Leno is funny, I don't think he'll last more than a year or two back at 11:35, and I think Conan should have been given longer to make his show work. But I've never thought Jay Leno was a bad guy.

As if Conan is some poor, helpless waif in this whole thing. Please. Even if Jay knew the 10 pm show wouldn't work, it wasn't his ask to be relieved of his Tonight gig in the first place. Wanting back what you didn't want to give up is hardly an underhanded, evil thing. Jay and Conan both are looking out for their respective "number one," and that in and of itself is fine for both of them. In this particular situation, Jay wound up--for NOW--on top. C'est la vie. The next act still has to be written, though.
