What if Channel 6 were a real TV station?

Why would Mega Media decide to operate Channel 6 as a radio station instead of a TV station?

1. They have no programming for TV.
2.The guy that owns the channel had a childhood dream of operating a radio station.
3.Its cheaper to do radio.
4.Its experimental and the Fcc is testing waters .

Pick one .

No, the real reason is that the video signal on Channel 6 sucks, but the audio gets out well enough to put out a credible signal for a radio station. If it were operated as a TV station the best you could hope for is infomercials or religious fare, much like the other LPTV's in the NYC area. Also, there's no must-carry rule for those stations, so cable coverage would not be a given.

Or have a camera at the studio and transmit that on the air. You could see the on-air personalities there. And if they really want to do it up...have some cameras going on during the Star & Buc Wild Show in the mornings....it would be like Howard Stern in that sense.

Chicago recently got a new low power analog station on Channel 6 sandwiched between two full power stations on 5 and 7.

The station is airing 'MTV Tres', and the audio can be heard on 87.7 FM.

Transmitter is atop the John Hancock Center, but the signal does not reach the city of license, Rochelle, Illinois, about 75 west of the transmitter. Seems odd that tthe FCC would allow this.

It's actually sammiched between channel 5 (76-82mHz) and the FM band. Channel 7 is 174-180 mHz.

Does 87.7 ever get interference from WPVI in Philadelphia?

I live on the 11th floor of a building in Hoboken, NJ facing south. If i move my antenna around i can do from a static'y pulse, to clearer, but still static laden WPVI audio.
