IMO: Radio was changing and WARM was not. KRZ hit the area hard and fast (too hard at first, I thought, but then I gradually changed my mind). It had contests which my old friend Bart Sommers thought a little over the ethical edge, but made a big splash (win a million KRZ bucks). It ran commercial-free for three months, which certainly siphoned listeners from stations which ran spots as usual and, to my mind, gave KRZ an unfair advantage.
So, KRZ changed the landscape in what had become a tired radio place. After things settled down, we had a group of people who were new, fresh, had an exciting sound and brought something to life that tired WARM was losing. WARM might have lasted as a ratings leader longer because that's about all we had. Magic is good, but not in the way KRZ has been; I think these guys really shook up the place.
