What if KSBJ buys KHTZ?

If for some reason KSBJ would buy KHTZ, would that be a good station to put NGEN on?

Lots of signal overlap with KZBJ, which is already carrying NGEN. Don't see this happening. KSBJ probably wants to add completely new coverage elsewhere. And can they afford to do so at this time?

KRNZ and KZAR over lap each other and both are Air one.

Just because one company does something doesn't mean another one will. EMF is better equipped in terms of financing than KSBJ is. Also, EMF has other options for the Gonzales stick that KSBJ wouldn't have for KHTZ. Both of KSBJ's formats are available where KHTZ covers.

I just don't see EMF putting K-Love on the air here. Too close to KSBJ's format.

A lot of these sticks are in the wrong place. KSBJ needs North and West Harris county, southern Montgomery county for NGEN. There just aren't a lot of possibilities.

Have wondered if KTWL could be pried away from Roy Henderson and turned into NGEN.

Worth keeping an eye on the Pacifica situation and the money woes with WBAI in NYC. If Pacifica sells KPFT in order to keep WBAI afloat, 90.1 could wind up with KSBJ for NGEN...or the main KSBJ format moves to 90.1 and NGEN goes to 89.3. However there would probably be multiple bidders for KPFT, and we don't know if KSBJ currently has the financial resources to pull off such a purchase.

Letting my mind run wild here: Pacifica puts KPFT on the block...American Family Radio (or an affiliate) buys it for an upgrade to their Houston coverage...and KAFR 88.3 winds up with KSBJ as an NGEN outlet for the northern part off the market? ::)

And...could KJIC 90.5 possibly be a future acquisition target for KSBJ? The KYBJ 91.1 NGEN signal is probably inadequate for the SE part of the market.

This has been covered a few times before: EMF owns the K-LOVE trademark across the US, except for in Los Angeles, Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston. CBS owns the trademark in DFW for the phonetically similar K-LUV and Univision in LA and Houston for K-LOVE.

All of these threads speculating about KSBJ buying this station or that one without any credible information are pretty silly, especially when the rumored station doesn't add much to what they already have.

Just for the record, I wasn't suggesting EMF would air K-Love in Houston. I was, however, suggesting they might run it on their flea powered Gonzales station because someone brought up that they were running Air1 on the Gonzales station and KZAR, which covers 100% of the area the Gonzales station covers, as a reason KSBJ might want KHTZ despite already having a stick that covers the same area.

Funny after I posted that, they must of flipped to Spanish since I posted that. So now it's just KZAR with Air One.

KSBJ could sell KZBJ, like they sold 89.3 in Victoria, if they did buy KHTZ, then Victoria would have NGen radio back. I miss it. KZJB get's blown out a lot of the time by KLUX.

106.5 hasn't been K-Love for a few years. Would Univision still have a case against EMF bringing K-Love to town, or is the K-Love format parked on HD somewhere?

Is KHTZ even valid any more? the CP Expires January 29 2013.

As long as Univision has that trademark in place, you betcha. Of course, deals would be made if EMF ever wanted to establish their K-Love brand here to compete with KSBJ.
