What if there'd been no Station fire?

Well I don't think this topic is out of bounds. I'm not talking about the big picture here when it comes to this tragedy but the radio picture instead. HJY is a politically incorrect station where very little is sacred so I think we can discuss this without objections.
The Doctor: He'd been there what? 15 years at the time? It would be 18 or so now. Would he still be there. All nighter or not, senior members at HJY are dropping off. Would he have moved on or been replaced by now?
Management: Bud Paras. Would he still be there and if so what staffing or programming changes might not have occurred in the cluster itself? Would anyone who left voluntarily have stayed? Would anyone who was hired not have been?
Discuss like adults..

>The Doctor would more than likely still be there. He would have been a great follow up to Quinn and Cantara.Even a fill-in if one could not be there.

Well Amy left and returned to go on the Bee.Other than that the answer would be no.B101's change came right on time if not a little late to become a Classic hit's station.John Morgan, when I was there said the oldies thing was only expected to last about 10 years. That was in 1990 when he told me that.
WHJJ-Who could they possibly put on that station locally. There is no one left.
Maryann Sorentino,I think she had it with radio.I heard her on the air once saying The Buzz approached her.
Rudy Cheeks- I hear he's been very sick lately. He's like Pat Sajack. He's kid of dull without Carolyn Fox. Like Pat is without Vanna.Remember his TV talk show.

When does this whole Station Night Club case go to Trial, Will we be able to discuss the case on this board since it involves local radio and television personalties and lawsuits against WHJY,WPRI,WNBH and I think there is another one but I can't think of it.
A question for our moderator when the time comes.Or a special board just for this topic.

<<>>It`s a fair topic, you raise some good questions.
An extention of your topic, the over the top fire laws
that businesses have to comply with.
Over 100 businesses went 'Out of Business' because of laws
that make NO sense now in R.I.

I would think that had the Station Nightclub fire not taken place, "The Doctor" would still have been on WHJY-94.1.

If there had been a fire, but if he had survived, he's probably be doing a lot of work to raise awareness about fire safety.

Had there been no fire, there also would have been one change to Providence television: Jeff Derderien would have become the co-anchor of WPRI-12's weekend evening newscasts (he would have been joining Danielle North). It's my understanding that he was set to get that asignment at the time the fire broke out.

I agree, I thing the doctor would definately still be there.

I knew John Morgan, and that is a very true statement that "the oldies thing was only expected to last 10 years" Seems like he was right on target

In response to Kenny's thought: should we have a discussion board to talk about The Station Nightclub fire when the trial starts. I feel that we should NOT have any discussion about anything to do with the fire when the trial is underway. I feel the trial or the fire in general is not radio or television related at all, except in one scenario. Yes, there was a photographer from Channel 12 in the building rolling tape when the fire started (and you all know what video was shot and aired)...and the concert was partially sponsored by WHJY. That's the ONLY relation to broadcasting this tragedy has. However, I still feel we should not be talking about the tragedy. If we have a separate board to talk about it, all the morons will be coming out of the woodwork, slinging insults, personal attacks, etc. against Channel 12, WHJY, The Derderians, Great White, people who work for the stations, etc. I feel a "The Station Nightclub Discussion Board" is irrelavant and useless...for everyone's own good. The fire is a very sensitive topic for many in this area. Why pour salt on an already open wound, so to speak? Let the trial commence and let's see what happens from there.

And Dave Kane attacks..

If there are personal attacks,Im sure the moderators will take care of it.
If people are angry about channel 12 or HJJ HJY, so be it.
FREE SPEECH...
Dave Kanes illegitimate son was there and died . The young man was only 18.
Were was Kane as a father? 21yrs is the law.
He blames the A.G., the Derderians, the laws, but he (Kane) has been pushing
a 'PARTYING' mentallity for years.
Alot of people are looking for some 'offical' group to blame.
A freak accident is what it was. Bad judgement, is what it was.
Rock and Roll ,partying, getting drunk, and high, grouped on top of eachother,
is what it was.
Putting the Derderians,or anyone else to blame is taking the blame off the
way we are. Its the way of Dave Kane. What he liked and preached as a
lifestyle..

This is Political correctness at it's best.Sorry Shawn, but if that is your thought we should get rid of Black History month or make March White History month.Don't Wish me a Happy Holiday because your Jewish.Wish me a Merry Christmas or nothing at all.I am not wishing a Jewish Person Happy Hannakuh because I don't share the same faith. Not to be rude.
Not an attack on you personally but this where PC has gotton us.
City Hall can't put up a Navity scene but can sponser a Gay Parade.A kid at School is forbidden to say the word "GOD" but can wear a T-Shirt with the F-word on it with the blessing of the ACLU.
If some one doent want to discuss something then don't make a post.I was on the thinking line of Buddy Cianci. Politics and Radio go Hand and Hand in this state.Unfortuniatly, The Fire is somewhat tied in to the T.V. and Radio market. With people and stations involved.

Citadel Broadcasting was also sued because Classic Hits "XL 102.3" in Groton, CT gave away tickets to the concert. "XL 102.3" changed to AC "MIX 102" shortly after the fire. Today they're "NewsTalk 102.3"
