What If......WCIN/WDJO

Assuming WDJO is purchased by the "oldies group", this will give them the opportunity to move their transmitter location to the Ronald Reagan Hwy location of WCIN (or elsewhere). Their (night) pattern would then cover the city (assuming the same paramters were allowed).

How feasible would this be? I know there has to be pretty good protection of WIMA in Lima, Ohio (1150), but what else, besides $$$$ would be required? As it stands now, 1160 is a good daytime only station, same for WCIN.

Huge expense...plus, it probably would not cover the City of License at night. If there were a way to have put this one in Cincinnati, I suspect it would have been done originally. Moving 1160 could easily top $500k...

If it's accurate that the FCC is now providing AM-on-FM translators, granted to allow AM stations to fill in nighttime holes in their city grade daytime coverage, would this not be the way to go for WDJO 1160 to improve coverage in Cincinnati metro/north suburbs....and surely less expensive?
WDJO does cover Florence/Newport/Covington with their signal at night but once you get past downtown it goes downhill fast.
Thoughts? Feasible? Any translators even left in Cincinnati? It's already a very crowded FM dial in the market - especially when north of I-275.
Note: See topic below on "Price of AM Stations"

WDJO's 60dBu coverage extends to a bit north of Hamilton, so a translator could indeed be placed in the northern suburbs if this is indeed the intent of the FCC. However, finding a spot on the dial is another story. Outside of the Northeast, I believe our area's FM band is one of the most densely populated regions in the country. I can barely find a spot on the dial for my in-home Part 15 transmitter.

Yep!

It's very crowded up here (NE Suburbs) - my Part 15 FM transmitter is using 90.5 - for how long who knows?

However, it would be nice if WDJO could "go" the FM tranlator route - in particular above north of RR Highway.

I wonder what the logistics of a translator are when you are LMA'ing a station? I'd suspect the owners would have to file for it and the WDJO folks would have to convince them to do so...

With the way the FCC is approving these things (AM simlucast on FM to improve coverage) couldn't (if they had the money) the Oldies folks buy one of the many EMF Xlators and then just rebroadcast the WDJO station themselves? as long as the owners of the license approved.

** ofcourse financially it would not likely be worth purchasing one from EMF but its always there... and I am sure EMF would sell if the price was right.

WDJO's programming seems more oriented to the Greater Cincinnati area as opposed to WCIN's nowadays. Maybe that's the reason. I remember when the station that became WDJO started, it was broadcasting on 1180 K.C. Back then, if you left the radio on after they signed off, WHAM in Rochester would come in.

It might be mentioned that both WDJO and WCIN have audio streaming available on their internet websites. That may not help the mobile audience, but works most anywhere else.
