What if when Channel America became a 5th Major Broadcast Network?

In 1986 the LPTV Network joins with FOX as the 4th and 5th Major Broadcast Network when they will get most stations

List of Channel America Stations in The Top 5 Markets

New York, NY - WPIX/11
Los Angeles, CA - KTLA/5
Chicago, IL - WGN/9
Philadelphia, PA - WFMZ/69
San Francisco, CA - KICU/36
Minneapolis, MN - KMSP/9
Milwaukee, WI - WMLW/41
Fresno/Visalia, CA - KMCF/32 (The Real Station signed on in 1998)

Now it's your turn what if when Channel America (now America One) were a Major TV Network?, reply here.

I don't quite understand you. KTLA and WGN are NOT America One affiliates they are owned by the Chicago Tribune and are affils of The CW.

America One affiliates are mostly smaller UHF stations. And the US actually has 7 commercial broadcast networks--ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, CW, MyNetwork TV and "i" (or ION, depending on how you want to look at it)

...your hypothesis is even more laughable than the idea of the Overmyer Network becoming a fourth major in 1967. In the prospective markets you list above, KTLA, WPIX and WGN were all having way too much success with being cable superchannels to even consider signing on with an upstart network, WMLW didn't even sign on until 2001 and Channel America never had anything that KMSP thought was worth the effort to look into. Come up with a more attractive fantasy next time...

As I recall, even Fox (let alone CW) with no daytime schedule, no network news and only two hours in prime time is not considered as "major network" and therefore does not operate under the same FCC rules which apply to NBC, CBS and ABC.

Sorry Charlie but Channel America/America One never had the resources to become a real competitor to the big three nor will they ever. I should note that America One is the smallest commercial, non-regional network in America to provide news and sports programming. However, what one sees now on A1 with the cheap ole syndicated news packages(usually INN or ANN), occasional broadcasts of canadian football and lacrosse games, and showing old movies is the most we'll ever see from America One, ever.

Nitpicker! ;D When people say that Fox is a major network, it isn't that they are implying the literal defination of one from the FCC, but the fact that Fox is a major competitor to the big three and on occassion gets higher ratings, hence why Fox is referred as a major network, because it's now a major player against the big three networks.

BTW CW has a daytime block from 3-5PM.
