What in the world is going on with Hot AC right now

Are there any other Hot AC music directors out there right now who are really disenchanted by the music that is circulating in the format right now? I keep looking at the charts, looking at the research, and I'm thinking...

wow...another Jack Johnson song that makes no sense...
great...a bunch of AAA junk that won't last 2 months...
aaaand here comes Chris Brown with 2 singles...

Maybe it's just me. I dunno. But where are the hits??? I am looking at just about anything but the Hot AC chart for our new adds right now. Would love to hear how other HAC music directors are feeling about the format right now.

I think considering the limited amount of AAA stations and the ability of adult audiences to appreciate that new music if exposed to it, Hot AC is the only place a lot of those artists have to go in an attempt to reach music fans. There's a lot of music in that category now, and I think it has a growing place in the culture. Music is getting so fragmented now that I'm not sure Hot AC can "own" many records. There's not much pure pop - the 80s gold we used to have as a core component of our station is wearing thin. Other than the AAA stuff, I'm not sure what other options are there.

Yeah.. I've been really digging to keep my playlist fresh, and it's been tough. You're right... there really are no "Just Hot AC" hits out there right now. Looking at the Hot AC top 10... all the songs on there are shared with Pop.

It has allowed me to be a little more daring than usual and have fun with the playlist. We're adding the Flobots song "Handlebars" this week. The response on that one is if you like it, you LOVE it... if you don't like it, you HATE it... no in-between.

I've also had adds from Ludo and The Bravery in recent weeks, both with fairly good response.

Maybe it's just a temporary thing, or maybe it's a sign of things to come, but yeah... it's a tough chart out there right now.

I've been on Kid Rock and Secondhand Serenade for a while. Both are sitting in my B rotation.

I haven't got my hads on Weezer's new single yet, but I'm looking to add it soon.
