What Is 1460 AM changing to? Any guesses?

Apparently ESPN Columbus (1460 AM) is changing to something else, albeit still sports, on September 2nd.

Anyone have any news on what it could be? Also, an ad currently playing on 97.1 says an old show is returning.....Skip & Dom?

My guess is that the Bet QL programming on their HD3 moves to 1460.

I think the easy thinking is ESPN is getting the boot completely, they moving up the BETQL lineup from HD-3 to the AM Feed. They also start airing Morning Juice from 6am - 8am on the AM side.

What I would love to see them do is repeat their shows overnight. I feel that could work since they already program the the main hours of 6am - 8pm and have sports broadcasts lined up as well. They could probably fill the rest with repeat.

So I just heard the ad you mentioned. They do say two names and the shows been gone for years. Skip and Dom are still working under the same management (Dom with 10TV and Skip on the radio side) so this would still be possible.

They're already cleared in the market on NABCO's 920 WMNI.
Wave the size of the 97.1 audience (for spots and auxiliary programming) in their faces and Fox might listen. Also remember, ESPN controls NO radio rights for NFL or college football (at least they don't right now, with the news this week that might change.) There is no ESPN imaging on 97.1 at all, and they already moved away from the ESPN voice guy on their afternoon show. I see ESPN going bye bye on the AM.. and the FM.

ESPN is still on the air. From what I heard from people in the know, it's going to be not all sports talk.
Given that 1460 has been a nearly invisible sports parking lot (h/t @DrAkbar) for 16 years, a mixed format is not going to work in any way. 1460's small, high-band signal doesn't help, either.

To be very honest, if it wasn't for 1460's status as an overflow play-by-play channel, then Tegna would have already turned in the license.

Yep, given it's tower is in a mostly residential area, they could easily sell that land for far more then the license would make with any other format than an overflow for stuff they can't clear on 97.1 (especially during Buckeye season when they have conflicts).

I heard the ad announcing some of the changes. Two of the shows mentioned were Bob and Tom and The Jim Rome Show

Bob and Tom is not sports talk but generally goes after the same male demographic that sports talk does. I can see them doing some form of hybrid with 1460 still being a dumping ground for sports conflicts on 97.1.
