What is ahead for 11.2?

Since Weather Plus is starting its shut-down later this month and will be gone by December 1 it means that channel 11 has to fill the spot with something. Will 11 keep some kind of weather programming on 11.2 or will they add some digital network or will 11.2 go dark for the time being.

Any one with insight.

Well since NBC/Universal now owns the Weather Channel, would it not make sense to allow some form of it to air locally like Weather Plus was allowed to do?

The Weather Channel had a local channel on Comcast channel 19 a while ago. I would assume Weather Channel local cast would replace Weather Plus. TWC is mentioning being a part of NBC Universal every 10 mins during "Local on The 8s."

That channel, WeatherScan, is now on digital channel 212 (right above Weather Plus at 211).

Because digital channels have to meet KidVid educational programming requirements, an all-doppler radar channel is out. A TWC feed is unlikely as cable providers (who have to shell out thousands to rent an IntelliStar computer) would be mad. More than likely, 11.2 will go dark in the interim until a new service is launched.

WXIA had a partnership with The Weather Channel prior to them going with Weather Plus. Part of that included WXIA video forecasts replacing the computer generated LF's on AM drive.

One idea would be to simulcast sister WMAZ/Macon's live newscasts on 11.2, and offer WXIA's newscasts on a WMAZ subchannel. Educational programs and other live news and sporting events (and news replays) could fill the time.
