What Is Clear Channel Doing?

I am an avid listener of both 98 Rock in Tampa and 101.1 WJRR in Orlando and cannot understand why Clear Channel is practically impolding the only decent radio stations in the Central Florida area! 1st 2 weeks ago they start by firing the Morning Fiasco with Pat Lynch and Taco Bob, only those 2 guys got the axe and they left Launa, who join the show 2 years before, to still work. If the ratings were bad, they should have axe her as well, she really brought nothing to that show and I know that some of the things did, they were basically "mailing them in"...because it was old... but don't get rid of them with out firing her. I know there is more to this story but I don't feel it's my place to go there. So since the firing they have put a temp morning show, but it's not a show, it's just the Mid-day guy being a company man and doing what he is told. So here's where 98 Rock comes into play, PD's of both stations, you have a working morning show in Tampa with "The Buckethead Show"....which airs as a replay in the afternoons on the Orlando station.....simulcast it and make it the morning show for Orlando. Also why was Buckethead not on-the-air earlier in the week in both markets? You can say what you will about him being sick, but that's a bunch of crap!
What it all comes down to is that Clear Channel is afraid of everything since the FCC lockdown....they ban "The BS" for no real good reason twice, they retool or sufficate "The Fiasco" to the point that they fire the only 2 enjoyable morning show guys in the Orlando area and leaving the public without a decent station to listen to in the morning....(no offense to Crash). Do us all a favor Clear Channel and sell these station and get out of the Central Florida market so a company with a set of balls can turn these stations around.....for now I'll be listening to Sirrus even more.

98 Rock is scrabbling cause Bubba's on the air and pulling most of 98 rocks listeners to the bone. I will say this by fall the bone will be the overall #1 station in the Tampa Market!!
 
Whew... that will say a lot for us as a society, won't it...
 
Wanna know what CC is doing?
Go to the Nancy and Jeff...Jeff Fired on page 8 and follow the links. That will give some insight to what may be going on.
 
Although they'll show some gains, The Bone will not be the overall #1. That will continue to be WDUV. To answer the original question... 2 words.... Brad Hardin.

And to confirm, YES, the flu IS going around CC-Tampa. How odd to think that radio people don't get sick. We do. And when it is bad enough, we miss work.

I always take the "1st post from a user" as kind of a credibility test. Blow it the first time out of the gate and you're gonna have a tough road here. Some of us that come to the table with credible information (the regulars readers know who they are) would all dry up and go elsewhere if real sources were exposed... I for one like what I've accomplished in the business and am perfectly content with rattling the cage sometimes (anonymously) if that's what it takes to get someone or a station's attention. Message boards will always bring out the haters and those who like to push buttons. You just gotta learn to take em for what it's worth. Like they say in radio.... if you don't like it, change the channel.
 
This is not germane in regards to the first post of this thread, however it does deal with the topic of discussion.

Last night while I was flipping through my presets at work, I noticed that "Club 933 Interactive" was NOT on location from mid-2A from the Hook Rum Club. Instead it was Kovacs and Lunchbox in studio.

Question: was this done as a result of ClearChannel doing what they do best, and doing often as of late? Cutting costs? My gut feeling says yes...

Yes...Clear Channel in small markets would fire the local morning show and replay the morning show from KISS 102 in CA. on their new stations. I have a friend who voice Tracks for 3 stations a day and does his local show live.

You're right! I am a new user, my name is Scott and I do have an opinion like everyone else in the world....I don't know if you live in Tampa or the Orlando area but if you appreciate music and a good personalities in the morning you would have probably enjoyed "The Fiasco" with Pat Lynch and Taco Bob back in the day. What is also funny is that you and others didn't even comment on that Launa, who came from 98 Rock in Tampa, joined the show in 05...added nothing to the show and was not fired due to ratings like the "Orlando Sentinel" reported. If the ratings went down, it was because of her, not just Pat and Bob. Also the loss of CJ as their producer, who taped funny bits that are still played across the nation on other stations as well, decided to work on his own projects and due more promo work for WJRR. Getting back to wondering why Clear Channel is imploding WJRR, which is now the only rock station in the market, due to O-Rock WOCL flipping formats in the same month, is also due to a freeze nationwide with their stations...no new DJ's, no new shows....so for me stiring the sauce....I am not....I just feel that Clear Channel should sell, which they are in the process of doing, to a buyer that may want to actually produce a great product......
Also to the people that say "change the channel"....I do...but I also have a choice to listen the only Rock Station left in the Orlando market.
By the way...now that Bubba is back on FCC radio, kind of makes you wonder that he probably isn't getting a response on Sirius, that he and Sirius expected. Also the Tampa people would lay down their lives for that "Narcissistic Piece of Crap", so no wonder he is making waves.
By far "The Buckethead Show" will prevail over the next few months after Bubba's return dies down.....and if the new owners of both stations have a clue.....simulcast "The BS" on WJRR in the morning as well......Oh and by the way "Roach?"....I'm neither Pat or Bob.

I know when The Fiasco was simulcast in Orlando and Tampa on both WJRR and WXTB, I loved the program and thought it was great. I could never understand why they never simulcasted The Buckethead Show on WXTB and WJRR, and put The Fiasco back on in the afternoon..or, vice-versa. That would have been awesome. Launa, never was much for her on WXTB and never heard her on WJRR.
 
I second that twshadow. I think that should be a motion to reconsider. Buckethead is getting better to, a real talent.
Was Launa ever on WJRR? ???
