what is going on at 96.1?

SInce moving to this area 9 years ago, one of my favorite stations was oldies 96.1 Wsox. Now it seems that they have dumped oldies and only play classic hits. I know alot of stations have leaned this way for awhile but with 98.5 THe Peak playing Classic Hits and Mix 106.7 playing their share of classic hits isn't 96.1 one too many classic hits stations. True oldies stations seem to have gone by the wayside. I am able to get WOGL 98.1 from Philly and they still play some oldies but even they are leaning classic hits.

Don't get me wrong I like Classic HITs and the 98.5 the Peak is doing a good job as is 106.7 in Harrisburg IMO. BUt why does Wsox have to follow them? Doesn't make sense to me. They have the oldies market to themselves they were getting decent ratings in York and Lancaster and now it seems they have thrown the oldies out the window.

How many stations do we need playing the Police.? Nothing against THe POlice. Does anybody see my point.

WHYL-AM 960 in Carlisle plays good mix of true oldies. so does WLAN-AM 1390 in Lancaster. who knows, with ESPN going to 1440 WGLD, maybe WOYK 1350 will go back to an oldies type format. aah, remember the days of Stardust 1350

Actually, SOX was the first to drop oldies somewhat from there format....they still play some late 60's stuff but focus more now on 70's and early 80's.....Mix and The Peak followed suit soon after

I think 96.1 and 98.5 changed at about the same time. I remember emailing 96.1 with the comment that they were starting to sound similar to 98.5. I do think 98.5 plays more rock hits and 96.1 still plays a limited amount of oldies but those 2 stations do overlapp their playlists. And then like you said 106.7 followed.

interesting because "big 92.7" flipped to smooth jazz in 2004 because there was already a much bigger signal (WSOX) doing the oldies format. now with WSOX primarily classic hits, i bet some people wish "big" were still around. nevertheless, i don't think "smooth jazz 92.7" is going anywhere. the station seems to be doing pretty well for itself with lots of new promotions "vacation giveaways" and the like cropping up and i see the "smooth jazz" van all over the place at jazz concerts and the like.

I frequent Mohnton, Berks County, and during the day I can get WLAN from about Exeter on in. I love ABC's "Timeless" national format (through WCMC in Wildwood) so I was happy to get LAN-AM to listen to, even if it is until I get out far enough on 422 where I lose them.
