What is going on at KOOI?

Rick Guest is nothing but a bully and unprofessional prick. He fired Matt Morton today but could have handled it more professionally yesterday when Matt asked him some questions. The man has no balls. He hired Charlie O to program the station but wouldn't let him do anything to make the station better. He needs the boot right back to Canada where he belongs. Between him, Ginger & Dru that group is a joke. They keep a morning team that sounds like a pack of queer monkeys on KYKX and get rid of a team that at least sounded adult. The numbers were down on KOOI because of the music and promotions. All controlled by Rick Guest. Charlie O never had a chance. He's better off outta there. So is Amy and Matt. :-[

Good heavens! I used to "DX" KOOI in the mornings from Fort Worth. I thought that Charlie and Amy were a great morning team for east Texas. They were "live and local." Access 1 = MORONS!

Funny you mention that. I used to listen to KOOI pretty regularly when I lived in Ft. Worth, too. I also used to check out US-104, KNUE, and KPXI. It seemed I used to get those Tyler stations quite-a-bit, and I lived at Hulen and Vickery in 1996 (I understand the neighborhood has gone down big time since then, when it was already heading in that direction!) when I listened to them most, which meant the old KMRT-FM 106.7 had a pretty good signal. I was rather surprised at how easy it was to get KOOI without problems courtesy of 106.7. I also remember being a teenager and being able to get the former X-100 and KWTX in addition to Y-95 and the Eagle.

Another reason: ED SHANE

Look up ED SHANE'S website and read all about how great Ric and Dru are according to ED SHANE. When will these uneducated GM's figure out ED SHANE and his pack of tiny size market helpers are LAME.

If Ed Shan knew how Dru really talked about him he might not be praising so much. Dru is just sucking up to keep his job. Of course as a PD he couldn't get a handle on Danny so maybe the consultant can. Never seen anyone change subjects so many times in one break, squeeze in some giggling, bad singing, comments that don't make sense and funny noises. Even the few occasions that Dru is trying to be serious Danny has to blabber away just to hear himself in the headset. In my 20 years in radio and broadcasting they have got to be the worst I have ever heard. Then you have the GM pretending to monitor the station and make it sound better. What school of broadcasting did she go to? How has the higher ups allowed this to continue? :-[

Buttercup.

Why is it allowed to happen?

ED SHANE.

Like i said ED SHANE will rid the building of knowlegable experienced savvy talent in favor of weak talent. He controls them that way.

It's not suprising Dru talks about Shane. I know too many people who have been screwed by ED SHANE.

He truly is a Saddam!

That's also sad about Matt Morton. Even while he was at KYKX his ratings 3-7p, were generally higher than any other daypart. Someboby told me that Ginger Nimmons got down on him, and that's the kiss of death. Someone who knows nothing, calling the punches and kissing Guest's and Access One's behinds.

How is it that a woman that failed at running a restaurant and club ends up as the general manager of a radio station? She doesn't know how to treat her clients or staff. She kissed Ricks butt. I'd be interested to see how that would work out if they were in the same office. She hides a lot of stuff under the table from Rick and Upper Management. And your right...if you don't like Nascar or you get on her bad side you might as well send out the resumes. Matt was used as a broom sweeping up the place and got blamed for stuff he didn't even do while other employees trade for personal use, wreck the company van and get away with stuff other employees were fired for. If you aren't in the "click" you are on your way out. Wonder who will be chosen as the new whipping boy now.

Ginger as a failed restaurant manager was hired to keep company at KYKX with Harlan (the self-crowned "sports guy") who also bombed as a restaurant ramrod. He got "in" with the KYKX bunch when they ate (at a deep discount) at the eatery he ran. They were also famous in their smoozing for pizza routine at another north Longview place. Next thing anyone knew he was in the building on the loop and claiming to know it all about radio. He quickly developed a cadre of non-believers who didn't buy into his routine.

As a previous post said, "Birds of a feather...." (do something together.)

That's an easy one to figure out. SM likes Nascar+GM likes Nascar = good excuse for weekend trips away without spouse. Two hotel rooms = "birds of a feather" = new job as unqualified sales manager and "on air personality" ETRG is not about experience, professionalism, fans. It's the "click".

I remember things JUUUST like this when people start talking about the "good ol days" of radio...the GM and salespeople had houses full of traded furniture, took vacations 10 times a year, and drove new Cadillacs every 2 years....and totally pooped on everyone else. Glad to see it's still alive & well.

He is going by Paul Moore on the air and the show is called "East Texas Morning"

How amazinly original. Now that they've come up with this astounding program concept, what will they do with the rest of their lives?

The Longview newspaper's Answer Line is quoting Rick Guest as saying Amy and Charlie O were "victims" of ratings.

How convenient.
