According to well-placed sources... Budler was receiving threats from a major sponsor and contributors (or associates) at the station, he called them out online. Tried getting police to help him, but to no avail. Station management fired him when he went public about the threats being made against him.
The threats stem from him starting his fishing program on WGMD. Supposedly this sponsor, which happens to be in an industry where fishing is a major part of their business, had been pitching a fishing show on the station for years and management would continuously deny their proposals. From my observation and what I know about the situation, the sponsor became unhappy with the host for doing the show and associates began threatening Budler.
The report I got was that the fishing-related sponsor and another sponsor in the telecommunications business (which happen to do business with each other... the fishing-related sponsor is the telecommunications sponsor's landlord) pushed the station management to get rid of him.
Supposedly, WXDE picked him up to do news... however I do not know what his specific role is.
It's a shame to watch what happened. Jon is a nice guy from Nebraska just trying to live his life and just do his thing. I understand the station's position, but it goes to show that "old" way of how business is done in southern Delaware.
