What is going on with V103???

The latest book shows the powerhouse station at 7.5, the ratings continue to slip!!! What is happening here?

New morning show.

I was thinking the same thing but not sure. How about Big Tigger's afternoon show? Both Kiss and Magic are putting more effort into afternoon drive.

Dayparts show the biggest weakness recently has been the mid-day show with Egypt Sherrod, not the morning show.

So I wonder how low Vee will let their ratings fall before they make changes? competition is edgeing up on them fast.

I still doubt those UACs will be able to overtake full-service urban contemporary, V-103. In the key dayparts, mornings and afternoons, the station is very strong. Atlanta isn't a typical urban radio market, and it is not WPGC in DC either. I'll give Majic and Kiss credit for finally investing in afternoons but Ryan Cameron and Big Tigger has mornings and afternoons on lock. Egypt is weaker number-wise than Ramona Debreaux ever was, but she has grown on the market listeners considerably since this time last year. CBS knows how they conceded to Cox on Orlando, so it will be a major fight for Kiss to beat V-103. Also the musical versatility (hip-hop mixed with contemporary and old school R&B) of playlists is the key factor that is going to weigh out in the end. This market's median age of typical urban radio listeners is 25-34, not 34+ in most other markets.

So where are the Urban midday listeners? Carol Blackmon at Majic? Cynthia Young at Kiss is out (Is Sasha the Diva coming back to middays?). I know Hot 107.9 is music intense during middays, but does Rickey Smiley's listeners stay tuned after 10am?

You apparently don't know what is going on in other PPM markets

In Chicago UAC beats WGCI
in Detroit UAC WMXD beats WJLB
in Miami UAC WHQT beat WEDR
In DC WHUR and WMMJ Both UAC's Beat WKYS and WPGC
in Memphis UAC KJMS Beat WHRK
In NYC WBLS UAC beats WWPR & WQHT
in Philly WDAS UAC beats WUSL
in Cleveland WZAK UAC beats WENZ

Uh, I am very familiar with all of these other markets. I just said "Atlanta isn't the typical urban listener market". Atlanta's median age is between 25-34 years old whereas most others are 34+. Secondly, all of those stations you just mentioned up against those UACs are Mainstream Urbans not a full-service, urban contemporary. Additionally, most of those cases those Mainstream Urbans are sister stations to those UACs which is actually a form of cannibalization of the urban cluster/combo. Finally, there is another PPM market where a full-service urban contemporary is beating the UAC, Kansas City. Full-service urban KPRS is beating UAC KMJK, so an UAC has been beaten by a full service urban and continues to do so. Yes, there is a difference because a full service urban contemporary, which can play anything it wants from old school to contemporary hip-hop, R&B, and/or gospel music; whereas a Mainstream Urban is contemporary hip-hop driven.

V-103 and KPRS are full-service urbans, so this a different kettle of fish....

V103 is now using the postioner "Atlanta's Home for Hip-Hop and R&B."

They are still using "The People's Station" slogan along with the new one.

Wow. There's Something Going ON ...

Not really. They are just added a new positioner. KPRS, WDKX uses similar positioners but remains full-service.

Wow, never saw that coming. With all due respect, I don't think it was necessary that V-103 had to go with the so-called generic "hip hop and rnb" positioner, given that its usage is done to death everywhere. It was one of the last major urban stations not to do that but everybody knows the station by its music choice.

Part 2 - if I had my way, a more appropriate secondary positioner for V-103 would be: V-103, "Sounds Like Atlanta." That would've been more distinguishable. The only such stations using this is WHUR ("Sounds Like Washington") and WDAS ("Sounds Like Philly").

V103 may have went with the new positioner since no other station is promoting both Hip-Hop and R&B. MAJIC 107.5/97.5 has been using "Atlanta's Best Mix of R&B" ever since they launched. KISS 104.1 recently changed theirs to "Atlanta's Best R&B," way too similar. Meanwhile, HOT 107.9 is still claiming to be "Atlanta's Only Hip Hop Station" and STREETZ 94.5 is "Atlanta's New Hip Hop Station."
